Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lynette Allen

Activities lead and Speak up Champion

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.

The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Christmas visit from Bluebells Nursery

This week at Sycamore Grove we had a very specially visit from a very special group of people. Our weekly guests from Bluebells Nursery visited to swap gifts, sing carols, and read a Christmas story with us and they had been growing beautiful plants for the home!

We also had a visit from local Bobbies Fleur and Richie who the children were really happy to see to!

What generous and thoughtful gifts. It was lovely to see you all and we hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a brilliant New year!

Oh yes they did! Sycamore Grove residents enjoy a trip to the panto!

Our wonderful residents at Sycamore Grove had a fantastic time at the pantomime this week! They were treated to a hilarious performance of Beauty and the Beast, complete with all the traditional panto fun: slapstick, silly costumes, and plenty of audience participation.

The residents were in stitches from the very beginning, and they especially loved Tucker rolling out the jokes. They even joined in with the singing and shouting, creating a truly magical atmosphere.

Thank you Devonshire Park Theater what a wonderful night!

A festive day trip for Sycamore Grove!

We all recently enjoyed a delightful outing to Blackbrooks Garden Centre, followed by a magical evening seeing the Christmas lights in Westfield.

At Blackbrookes Garden Centre , they indulged in festive shopping, savoured delicious treats, and soaked in the vibrant holiday atmosphere looking at all the different displays and entertaining dancing penguins!

Before completing a round trip back home we took a detour to see the stunning lights in Westfield which was great for getting us in the mood.

Gingerbread house making

With the nights drawing in we thought we would show you what we have been busy doing...

Take a look at our finished gingerbread house

It looks stunning and as a group we are super proud!

I am sure it should last a little longer for us to admire....until we get a little peckish....

Christmas Party at Sycamore Grove

We had an absolute blast at our Friends and Family Christmas party! We played games like pin the nose on Rudolph, ring toss on the antlers, and had a great sing song with party food made by our wonderful chefs. It was the perfect way to celebrate the holidays with some great people
