Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.

Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.

Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.

Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Our Virtual Church Service and Virtual Tour of local Mosque

We spent some time last week looking at and learning about religions around the world

We held religious quizzes to test our knowledge on different religions and spent time doing calming colouring of special religious buildings and artifacts

We took part in our own Church of England virtual service as well as joining the Lincoln Mosque to learn more about how Muslims worship. What an honour it was to be taken on a special virtual tour of the mosque whilst we was enlightened on the culture and religion of those that worship there. They was kind enough to invite us to visit them in the near future which we are very much looking forward too. It was lovely to feel so welcomed within a part of the local community to learn

Tennyson Wharf's Preparations for Burns Nights

Preparation was well underway this afternoon, getting ready for our Burns night celebrations

By painting, cutting, gluing and sticking we each made our own tarten kilt designs. We are planning on using our kilt designs to make into bunting to display during our celebrations later in the month

Around the world in 80 minutes!

This week we supported cultural needs with a group discussion of our travels

Everyone enjoyed sharing their own experiences about places, memories, famous sites and foods that they have experienced. We created our own holiday memory pages as we chatted. Lots of funny and special memories shared

‘Got a Lot O' Livin to do! Tennyson Wharf Care Home celebrates Elvis's Birthday this year

‘Got a Lot O' Livin to do! Tennyson Wharf Care Home celebrates Elvis's Birthday this year

Tennyson Wharf care home celebrated Elvis Presley’s Birthday on Saturday 8th January. It would have been

his 87th Birthday. We unfortunately couldn’t allow a tribute act into the home due to COVID restrictions so

our fantastic Activities Coordinator, Zoe Sheridon dressed for the occasion – there were definitely some suspicious minds in the room!

We sang along to Elvis bingo and got our blue suede shoes a tapping during a Rock and roll exercise session .

There was also a chance to put our knowledge to the test with an Elvis song quiz and some fact time!

The laughter throughout the day really was infectious

General Manager, Zoe King said ‘it’s a good job we all love Elvis, I mean who doesn’t? Zoe is a great activities Coordinator and really goes above and beyond for each of her activities’.

We were hit over the Christmas period with new Lockdown measures but we hope these will be lifted soon and that we will be able to ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll’ our way into 2022 in the words of Elvis!

Christmas Craft time!

A creative craft demonstration impressed residents this afternoon

Using last year's Christmas cards to make decorations is a great way to recycle cards in a way that we can treasure them for years to come

After a few group discussions, residents have decided that the decorations will be a great item to have on their own craft stall next year

Our Christmas Cake Competition

Barchester had a Christmas Cake Decorating Competition over the Christmas period and the Residents at Tennyson Wharf made some Christmas cracking entries!

The ladies enjoyed an afternoon of social interaction whilst using their imagination, designing and creating their wonderful cake designs
