Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.

Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.

Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.

Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Football Fever , Football Fever

Football Fever

Lincoln City Football Club visited us recently. In attendance, we had to two past footballers who played in the 1940s, and a current player, Harry Toffolo. The residents enjoyed talking to each footballer in turn, discussing the various memorabilia on show.

Dementia Café Opening

Dementia Café Opening

We launched our very own Dementia Café on Tuesday 2nd April, and were joined by Music for Health as well, who play lots of music that residents know and love.

We were also joined by representatives of the Alzheimer's Society, who were on hand to provide advice and guidance for those who required it.

We hosted various games and activities for the everyone, including dominoes and colouring, whilst enjoying light refreshments and some lovely homemade cakes.

This event is open to all, free of charge and happens the first Tuesday of every month.

Man's Best Friend , Man's Best Friend

Man's Best Friend

We hosted our first ever dog show. There were 8 dogs in total, with a mixture of staff and residents' loved ones bringing their furry friends.

A resident and a family member played the role of judges, and they judged the cutest, best behaved and best fancy dress costume.

Everyone enjoyed the show, including the dogs themselves, each of whom received dog chews, with the winning getting a special dog toy.

Little Visitors

We recently had a visit from our local preparatory school, Burton Hathow, who came to do activities with residents. The children were all from year 1, and were between 5 and 6 years old.

Each child made a 'getting-to-know-you card', with the help of the residents, which they then wrote inside and gave it to the resident of their choice.

All the residents had big smiles on their faces and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the children.

Burton Hathow will be visiting Tennyson Wharf on a regular basis during term time.

Real Bread Week

Tennyson Wharf recently celebrated national bread week. The residents each mixed the ingredients, kneaded it and left it to prove. The residents then put it into shapes on the baking tray and put it in the oven.

We then tried the warm, baked bread with some lovely butter on top and a cup of tea. All the residents enjoyed it, especially Frank, who used to be a baker, so he gave us some tips.

Knit & Natter

Knit & Natter

Some residents had forgotten how to knit as it had been quite a few years since they last tried, but they soon got back into the swing of things. Residents are currently knitting bonnets for the neonatal ward at Lincoln City Maternity Hospital.
