Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.

Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.

Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.

Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

A Dream Come True...

One of our residents, Beatrice had always wanted to ride in a side car of a motorbike, so staff at the home made her wish a reality. Beatrice, aged 100, has lived at Tennyson Wharf for nearly a year and is beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to her, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Beatrice’s face.

Staff first found out about Bea’s dream a few weeks ago and they have been dedicated to helping her achieve it. Beatrice recalled about how she used to ride in her Father’s sidecar when she was a child and longed to go in one again!

In response to this wonderful surprise, Beatrice, said: “I was on the verge of tears. It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out a dream – and I didn’t even ask.”

Richard Pindani, General Manager at the home, said: “We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Tennyson Wharf.  It was so nice to see how happy Beatrice was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well. We would also like to say thank you to Dave and Val from the riders branch of the Royal British Legion for helping us to realise Beatrice’s dream.”
