Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Rebecca Harrowing
Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.
Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.
Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.
Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home
Charity PJ Day!
Tennyson Wharf very much enjoyed wearing their pyjamas to work to raise funds for Children In Need! Staff got involved in a 24-hour sponsored bike ride and cake dunking and thoroughly enjoyed making a fool of themselves ….. all for a good cause of course! Funds are still being raised. Watch this space for the final amount!
Christmas Tree Decorating
Our lovely residents at Tennyson Wharf very much enjoying decorating their Christmas trees, and getting into the festive spirit!
Weird and Wonderful Creatures
Residents, family, friends and staff very much enjoyed a visit from Zoolab – who brought in insects and animals that were both weird and wonderful. We think the faces depicted in these photos tell their own story!!
Celebrating 100 years of the RAF
Tennyson Wharf celebrated 100 years of the RAF in grand style. Centre of attention was a painting of the legendary ‘Lancaster’ donated by family members in memory of their father Peter who lived with us, and as a thank you for looking after him so lovingly . Peter flew in the war and attended Bomber Command recently to reminisce. Senior Carer Louise baked us a lovely cake and residents sang golden oldies with Jesse, a 1940s singer, which left them with a smile on their faces.
Proud Father
Alan avails himself regularly of respite care here at Tennyson Wharf, and has done so for a number of years. Alan also enjoys our day care facilities every Wednesday without fail, taking part in all sorts of wonderful activities – particularly our Wednesday Gentlemen’s Club!
Alan was over-joyed recently when he was not only able to walk his beautiful daughter down the aisle, but emotionally shared a dance with the lovely bride. The family never imagined that would be possible, following a stroke a few years ago which, left Alan partially immobile. Needless to say, there was not a dry eye in the house – and father and daughter were on top of the world!
Following the lovely wedding, Alan had such a wonderful time interacting with his great great granddaughter.
A beautiful and emotional day was had by all!
Gainsborough Old Hall
Some residents enjoyed a trip to Gainsborough Old Hall, a well-preserved medieval manor house. Famous visitors, aside from our residents, include Richard III, Henry VIII, John Wesley and the Mayflower Pilgrim!
They had a wonderful day, which they couldn’t wait to share with their families and friends upon their return to Tennyson Wharf!
