Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.

Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.

Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.

Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Tour of the deep

Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.

Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.

It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.

Therapy Dogs

Residents at Tennyson Wharf always welcome the Therapy dogs with warmth and happiness.

Our Residents very much enjoy the monthly visits, to see our Residents and how they engage with the dogs is just amazing. These visits bring back so many happy memories, happiness and well-being to our Residents. It’s truly heart-warming to see the smiles on everyone’s faces.

Caterpillar Toddler Group

We are lucky to have the Caterpillar Toddler Group here in term time on Thursday mornings.  Our residents always look forward to seeing them and love to join in with the singing, interactive play, with hand puppets and musical instruments.

Residents enjoyed the bubble machine last week, the children and residents were keen to pop as many as they could.

National Gardening Week

In celebration of National Gardening Week we took some of our eager residents off in the mini bus to a few local garden centres.

On our trip to Whisby Garden Centre we were treated to a beautiful display by a magnificent peacock. This was followed by a lovely cup of tea.

Our second trip was to Pennell’s Garden Centre where we saw some beautiful floral displays.

We bought a lovely selection of plants to take back to our Care Home and are looking forward to planting them all out into the garden.

Celebrating Cadbury's

Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heart warming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!

Easter Bonnets

There was great excitement as we discussed the decorating of our Easter Bonnets this year.

A lot of discussion went into decide which bonnet suited who best and planned our decorating them.

We had a large selection of Easter decorations to choose from, we decided against fresh flowers as we were wanting to do an Easter Bonnet Parade at our Easter Fayre on Monday and wanted them to look nice and fresh.

Making the bonnets gave everyone a great sense of achievement and residents were happy to parade around showing off their beautiful decorations.
