Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Rebecca Harrowing
Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.
Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.
Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.
Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home
Our Knitting and Natter group
Engaging in the "Knitting and Natter" group has become a cherished activity for many of our residents. The group provides an opportunity to involve as many residents as possible and we all enjoy the social aspects and take great pride when we have accomplished our final knitted piece.
Currently, we are working with the Ladies from Sturton by Stow to create an Easter post box topper, with numerous creative ideas taking shape. The ladies willingly assist anyone eager to learn or in need of guidance. We've even had a male resident express interest in picking up the art of knitting which had in turn boosted his confidence and he feels a real sense of belonging to our group.
A visit to our local Mosque
Exploring the Lincoln Mosque held significance for some of our residents who were eager to gain insights into different religions.
During the visit, our residents were welcomed by the Iman of the Mosque who guided us into the spacious prayer room. The experience became intriguing as we delved into the history of the old Mosque, followed by the fascinating journey leading to the creation of the new Mosque.
Following our visit to the Mosque we welcomed Iman into our home where he answered additional questions that our residents had.
Metal Detection Dogs
Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs.
Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.
Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.
We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.
Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!
All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!
Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.
Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
Meet The Reindeers
Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.
Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers. We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.
Tennyson Wharf Christmas Fayre
Magical moments at our Care Home Christmas fayre, from hooking the duck to tombola fun, finding Santa’s helpers and a visit from Father Christmas – the joy was contagious! Raising an impressive £490. The funds are earmarked to fulfil the cherished wishes of the residents, transforming dreams into reality. The Christmas fair not only brought joy and merriment but also served as a heart-warming testament to the generosity and unity within our Care Home’s close-knit community.
