Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing
Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.
Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.
Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.
Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Nature walk
This week we made the most of the beautiful summer weather by heading out for a nature walk. We enjoyed a game of alphabet eye spy which proved quite challenging. It got all of our minds working and searching around the beautiful scenery. Afterwards we sat on the terrace and had tea and scrumptious cake while nattering away.

Hospitality Champion
Donna Shipman at Tennyson Wharf in Burton Water, Lincoln has been crowned ‘Hospitality Champion’ for the North NE Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2024 and is through to the national round of judging.
The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,000 residents living in Barchester’s 261 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.

Tea at the cathedral
We enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Cathedral. We especially appreciated the beautiful weather!
After tea and coffee, we visited the Cathedral to light candles and admire the architecture, stained glass and the peaceful atmosphere.

Charity Cook Off
Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.
Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Virtual trip to Eden Project
Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.
During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories. A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Latest post box topper
Our post box toppers are just getting better and better! We had decided on a summer themed one and the ideas were coming thick and fast. We had beach house, a light house, a boat surrounded by crabs, fish, a teddy’s bear picnic and even the Lincs and Notts knitted air ambulance.
Our topper has been greatly admired by all the community and even featured on Calendar news. We have already started planning and knitting for our Halloween topper.
