Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.

Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.

Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.

Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

,

The Museum of Lincolnshire Life

Brian has lived in Lincoln for 50 years yet never visited The Museum of Lincolnshire Life until a visit with Tennyson Wharf this week. We were able to spend a few happy hours wandering the exhibitions. We all enjoyed the Victorian rooms and the agricultural displays. Keith had told us that there was much to see there and this surprised us all, we certainly need another visit to capture all that the museum has to offer.  Brian thoroughly enjoyed his visit and exclaimed “I just didn’t know it had so much packed in!” We finished off our visit with tea and coffee in the cafe.

A Visit from Darwen

We had a joyous visit from Darwen the mini pony and Brenda from Comfort Horse Therapy.  It was a special afternoon that brought much happiness to the residents. Darwen is fully house trained and was even able to ride the lift to see residents in their rooms! The residents were surprised how soft Darwen was. Yvonne said “It was like touching velvet!”  Patrick described Darwen as “A happy little fellow”.  Tennyson Wharf has a new best friend!

Bring me sunshine

We enjoyed a performance of 'Bring Me Sunshine' by Clearer Productions. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon’s live entertainment. A lot of effort was made by Nicky the singer who introduced herself and ask each audience member their name, this gesture was very much appreciated.

The costume changes each revealed another stunning outfit, which added to the West End feel. Sue, one of our residents,  loved singing along and said it was a wonderful afternoon

Home present cheque to local charity

Tennyson Wharf recently presented a cheque on behalf of Barchester’s Charitable Foundation to the ‘Bearded Fisherman’. The care home welcomed Rick and Mick to their monthly coffee morning which takes place on the first Thursday of every month at 10:30 am.

Peter Painter, Resident Representative, at Tennyson Wharf presented the cheque on behalf of Barchester Charitable Foundation for £500 to the Bearded Fishermen charity. This organization which helps prevent suicide and helps with mental health issues in all ages, was established in 2019 by Rick Roberts and Mick Leyland after they tragically lost a fellow fishing friend to suicide. The charity runs solely on donations which is an incredible task with a team of 24 volunteers, 24 hour phone lines which handles an estimated 6000 phone calls annually, approximately 1800 face to face visits whilst dealing with annual overheads of £80,000.

Homes join 100th virtual event

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Caterpillar Toddler Group

We have enjoyed another visit from the Caterpillar 'intergenerational' singing and action play group. It was a lovely experience for everyone, the residents certainly loved the energy and excitement of the toddlers! We sang favourite nursery songs with puppets and instruments.
