Activities at The Warren Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Here at The Warren, our activities team are always very busy thinking of new ways to keep residents active, both physically and mentally. We have regular trips out in the minibus, both locally and further a field, including the London Eye and the Thames River Trip), at least once a week during the summer months. We also enjoy visits from PAT dogs and have professional exercise sessions and live entertainment, which are always popular.

Kirstie Bush

Activities Coordinator

My name is Kirstie and I am lucky enough to be the Activities Coordinator here at The Warren.

I have many years of experience working in care homes in Activities and leisure and lifestyle roles.

I love being part of The Warren team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel that the importance of residents' input into our weekly planner is important giving all residents equal opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous interests and hobbies.

Alpaca-tastic

Residents at The Warren love the animal therapy sessions that our dedicated Activities Team organise. As one of the foundations of our Life Enrichment program, we know that animal therapy can help reduce blood pressure and improve overall cardiovascular health.

Our Residents were feeling alpaca-riffic after they got a visit from their furry friends. The Home was alpaca'd with smiles and there were even individual room visits.

Animal therapy is one of the cornerstones of our life enrichment program and features regularly on our resident-led weekly activity planner.

A 'blooming' great afternoon!

The home smelt of fresh flowers and the aroma was fantastic. Some of our residents used to do flower arranging for the church, others just for fun. Whatever the reason was, we love bringing back memories for our residents and making sure they do activities like they used to before living at the home. We went to the supermarket, found the most beautiful blooms and the activity was made.

We think the residents did an amazing job too. They look just stunning around the home for all our visitors to see.

Yet another fantastic river trip and again we had amazing weather...perfect.

We packed a Picnic with Sandwiches, homemade sausage rolls, Scotch Eggs, cocktail sausages and some Cupcakes to finish.

The picnic was ready, boat ready, residents ready. Let’s go go go!!!

Entertainment from The Accordion Man

We all had a jolly good time with The Accordion Man, such a talent!! Our residents sung a long, swayed in time, clapped and just had the best time.

The Accordion man goes down so well when he entertains us, he’s just one of our many fantastic entertainers that we put on for our residents.

Pussy cats and Coffee today - What a happy combination!!

This morning we spent at The Cat House - Cat Lounge & Arts Centre - Norwich . It was amazing. This was such a wonderful experience and the residents loved it. So many beautiful cats and not enough time to love them all. We met hairy cats, hairless cats, sporty cats, funny cats, chilled cats, cute cuddly cats, and one that would steal your cake if you weren't looking!!

And they were all gorgeous. Thank you to Sarah and her team for making us feel so welcome.

We're forever blowing bubbles

At The Warren we know that intergenerational activity is hugely beneficial to all involved as it encourages communication and social skills. Intergenerational contact also helps to develop language and reading confidence through shared activities, as well as increasing confidence and self-esteem. Lastly it helps children to develop empathy, care and kindness, helping them to understand and talk more positively about ageing and older people.

We had a visit for the Debutots who filled the home with laughter and bubbles galore. Our Residents couldn't wait to add to the fun and enjoyed blowing the bubbles maybe more than their visitors.

Cookery club

Our cookery club amazed us once again with their delicious Cheese Straws and Cheese & Marmite Straws too. They looked so professional, giving them a little twist and a sprinkling of extra cheese on the top.

They tasted even better than they looked, and the whole home could smell them baking. They couldn’t wait to try them with coffee that afternoon.

World Chocolate Day

We enjoyed a lovely morning celebrating World Chocolate Day with the amazing kiddies from Cecil Gowing Infant School. They were so well-behaved and polite and loved making their creations. Melted chocolate, all swirled with a stick, then decorated with whatever they wanted too. The whole home smelt of melted chocolate, and it was so tempting to lick the swirling stick....one little boy started the trend then they all wanted to lick the stick.

Thank you, Cecil Gowing school for coming to share the day with us.  Intergenerational activities are so very important to keep our residents young at heart.

Norfolk Broads Boat Trip

Another fantastic trip on the Norfolk Broads with the Nancy Oldfield Trust.

We started off by seeing a duck and her gorgeous babies, not 1 but 2 Herons, some beautiful river-side properties all tied in with a picnic, sunshine and a wonderful relaxing river trip.

One resident said "I'm 94 and have lived in Norfolk all my life, but I have never been on the broads." She absolutely had the best time. She was so engaged with everything that was around and soaked it all up like a Sponge...

"I had the best day, thank you," were her parting words when she left the minibus.

Regular outings are just one aspect of our life enrichment program and all the trips we take are at the request of the residents. Our monthly activities calendar boasts a range of outings and entertainment.

Our Residents took a trip to Merrivale Model Village in Great Yarmouth and after enjoying the sights and the fresh sea air enjoyed a sumptuous lunch before heading home.

By taking regular feedback and requests from our residents we can enhance our life enrichment program to suit the interests of the residents.

Visit from the vintage motorbikes

We were lucky enough to have a visit from our local Vintage Motorbike club and the residents enjoyed every minute of seeing them.

They remembered either riding the bikes or their father having one or even riding a pillion. Everyone had a memory of something. They looked amazing, and the owners were proud as punch with all the lovely comments about them.  Thank you VMCC for your visit.

Puppies and Prayers

Morning worship with a twist...the twist being a gorgeous 3-month-old puppy called Humphrey!!! He was quite a distraction, and he made our residents laugh after ripping up and eating the order of service.

The Vicar then took him to see a couple of residents in their room, which was so wonderful, and they really appreciated his visit, spiritually and therapeutically.

National Cheese Day

What better way to celebrate National Cheese Day but to hold a cheese, wine and Charcuterie afternoon in the garden for residents and their families?

With a selection of Brie, Stilton, Wensleydale and good old-fashioned cheddar you can't go wrong, all served with crackers, butter, red onion chutney, grapes and a selection of cold meats....wonderful. The wine was flowing, and the garden was busy with chatter with family.

Live Musical Theatre Day!

If we can’t get to the theatre, The Warren will make the Theatre come to you.

We have so many residents who love live theatre and musicals, so what better way to entertain them by hiring Clearer productions who gave us a morning of live musical entertainment.

This brought so much joy to our residents, many who enjoyed singing along to the familiar West End songs!
