Activities at West Abbey Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.

Nikki Griffee

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Nikki and I originally came to work at West Abbey in 2018 and have worked in various roles supporting our residents.

What I enjoy about my job is that no two days are the same and most of all, I thoroughly enjoy everyday activities with the residents including 1-2-1 room visits all the way to professional singers visiting us. A firm favourite of mine and the residents at West Abbey is using our mini-bus weekly and visiting local nature hot spots! I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Life at West Abbey Care Home

Hairdressers

It was that time of the week today, when the wonderful Kirsten West Abbey’s hairdresser, worked her magic on the residents hair! Everyone always looks a million dollars when Kirsten has been to visit, you can certainly sense the excitement when she's in the building, and we are so very lucky to have our own in-house, purpose built salon!

30 Year Anniversary

Here at West Abbey we have been busy today celebrating our 30th birthday! On this day 30 years ago our building was opened by Paddy Ashdown MP. Residents, relatives and community groups have joined together today to celebrate alongside the Mayor of Yeovil, Jan McNeil Entertainer and Speaker, a Saxophone performance, St James Church held a flower arranging.

Abbotsbury Swannery

On the road again with West Abbey! Abbotsbury Swannery is home to the worlds only managed colony of nesting mute swans, so of course some of our residents had to go and take a look for themselves. Armed with a picnic and plenty of coffee. The residents absolutely loved seeing the swans .

Lavender Picking

At West Abbey we are so lucky to have a fantastic gardener , with such big gardens to look after some residents enjoy helping with looking after the flowers. The residents have a choice of gardens , and they love nothing more than having relaxing time outside to enjoy the gardens. Then after all the hard work is done it off to our Cafe for coffee and cake! .

Mini Bus Trip

What a beautiful day to have a mini bus trip to Yeovil country park , Ninesprings. The nationally rare water vole has been seen. Although we did not get to see them, we did however get to the cafe for a coffee!

Trip to Seaside

Close your eyes and make a wish. Open your eyes and your wishes come true! Some of our residents made a wish to go to the beach , so to the beach we went. The residents and colleagues took a trip to Weymouth seafront. Fish and chips for lunch , a little walk along the front and a little fun.
