Activities at West Abbey Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.

Nikki Griffee

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Nikki and I originally came to work at West Abbey in 2018 and have worked in various roles supporting our residents.

What I enjoy about my job is that no two days are the same and most of all, I thoroughly enjoy everyday activities with the residents including 1-2-1 room visits all the way to professional singers visiting us. A firm favourite of mine and the residents at West Abbey is using our mini-bus weekly and visiting local nature hot spots! I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Life at West Abbey Care Home

A trip to the bakery!

When one of our residents was asked what they would like to wish for, they had a simple request – to have a traditional lardy cake fresh from a bakery. Laura and Nicky were happy to oblige, No wish is to big or to small for our Activities Team. They set about making a trip to The Bakery set just to the side of the A303, surrounded by beautiful countryside. Residents were spoilt for choice with brownies, shortbread, doughnuts, and more. Taking their goodies, they then headed over to the Cafe for refreshments and to enjoy the freshly baked goods they brought.

Lawn Games

Residents had a great time engaging in some lawn games under the sun! From boules and croquet to lawn darts, the morning was filled with fun activities. To top it off, everyone enjoyed a delightful tea and cake session. Perfect way to kickstart the day!

Childhood Dreams

Residents at west Abbey had a special day out this week visiting Glenda Spooner Farm, an international charity dedicated to horse welfare. One resident, Rosemary, had a childhood dream fulfilled as she longed to see horses again. The visit allowed them to see the horses up close in the stables and running free in the fields, making for a delightful morning.

Holidays and Travel

Reflecting on a delightful trip down memory lane with Jan Millward from Rural Rhymes and Reminising. Dive into the nostalgia of family beach days, travel adventures, and the classic "Are we there yet?" moments. Exploring old maps, reliving the modes of travel that got us there, and cherishing holiday keepsakes has been a true joy.

Sunshine Smiles

Our residents here at West Abbey have been thoroughly enjoying the recent sunny weather. Its great opportunity to enjoy our gardens! The gardens are utilised for activities and relatives visiting.

Cuppa with a Coppa

For our monthly community cafe event we have had the local PCSO join residents for a brew for a Q&A covering many different topics from scams to local issues. But don’t ask them about parking!
