Activities at West Abbey Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.

Nikki Griffee

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Nikki and I originally came to work at West Abbey in 2018 and have worked in various roles supporting our residents.

What I enjoy about my job is that no two days are the same and most of all, I thoroughly enjoy everyday activities with the residents including 1-2-1 room visits all the way to professional singers visiting us. A firm favourite of mine and the residents at West Abbey is using our mini-bus weekly and visiting local nature hot spots! I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Life at West Abbey Care Home

Therapy Dog

Recently we have had the pleasure of Harry , our pet therapy dog. Pet therapy has a huge impact not just for residents, but for our staff too. Harry brings a calming effect to so many, and lots of smiles on peoples faces. Harry visits us frequently and has recently celebrated an award at Crufts!

Back to School

A few residents from West Abbey would like to give the local children of Yeovil a few wise words to all the children just starting school , or moving up to secondary school. Residents and all the staff wish the best of luck and happiness for the future .

Day Trip

After a little shopping trip , what a better way to end with a trip to a local farm shop. The residents always enjoy a trip out whether its local or far away. Having our mini bus is a fantastic opportunity to get out and see Somerset!

Motorbike Show

Here at West Abbey Care Home we would like to extend a huge thank you to Westlands Classic Motorcycle Club based in Yeovil for hosting our first ever bike night! A selection of 30 bikes arrived for our residents to admire and reminisce of memories involving motorcyles. We would like to extend a thank you to the community members of Yeovil that joined us, our kitchen and host team for a fantastic selection of refreshments and hot dogs!

Summer BBQ

Here at West Abbey we have been celebrating summer by hosting our annual summer BBQ here within the grounds. Residents and relatives enjoyed a selection of home made treats and refreshments, served by our Host Ryan. Alongside enjoying the food, everyone was up swinging to performer and singer Jan. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all.

Keeping fit

Craig from Communfit leads our weekly seated exercise class with expertise, guiding us through a variety of beneficial exercises.Physical health, mental well-being, cognitive function, and sleep all benefit greatly from regular exercise, especially for the elderly. The best part? It's enjoyable!
