Activities at West Abbey Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.

Hi, I'm Nikki and I originally came to work at West Abbey in 2018 and have worked in various roles supporting our residents.

What I enjoy about my job is that no two days are the same and most of all, I thoroughly enjoy everyday activities with the residents including 1-2-1 room visits all the way to professional singers visiting us. A firm favourite of mine and the residents at West Abbey is using our mini-bus weekly and visiting local nature hot spots! I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Life at West Abbey Care Home

Mini Bus Trip

Here at West Abbey we went on a surprise trip to Martock parish hall watch a Goldies Christmas show. Local school children sang some Christmas carols, then we all sang along to Oldie Goldies. We then had some lunch and went back to the singing. To top the afternoon off we were treated to the entertainers the Resevoir Dogs. Everyone joined in the festive fun and didn't want it to end .

Christmas Fayre

Here at West Abbey we have had a fantastic weekend celebrating our Christmas Fayre with residents, relatives and local community members.The day was kick started with a performance from Stoke Sub Hamden with a brass band performance alongside the Town Crier & Mayor to complete speeches. The lounge and dining rooms were full of different stall holders selling personalised items and crafts which many residents and members of the public enjoyed browsing. The day was finalised by a fantastic performance from the U3A Music Group which the residents thoroughly enjoyed.

Pet Therapy

This week we have had Harry the Pet Therapy Dog come in to visit us all at West Abbey. Our residents and colleagues all love seeing Harry, he brings a smile to so many peoples faces in the home. Pet therapy has a huge impact on emotional wellbeing and we look forward to welcoming Harry again in the next few weeks. 

Performers

Here at West Abbey we have a selection of performers that come and sing across the week. The home comes alive with atmosphere and good energy when our performers are in the building with feet tapping and residents singing! This week the residents enjoyed Jan McNeil.

Bonfire Night

Here at West Abbey in Yeovil we have celebrated Bonfire Night with a bang this November 5th when we wrapped up warm to gather around the bonfire to watch a fantastic firework display and enjoy lots of seasonal treats washed down with some mulled wine.

Halloween Flower Arranging

Here at West Abbey we have hosted an Autumnal Flower Arranging course for our residents to enjoy together. The residents spent time carefully selecting colours and textures that would compliment one another before placing the finished arrangements in pre-carved pumpkins!
