Activities at West Abbey Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.

Nikki Griffee

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Nikki and I originally came to work at West Abbey in 2018 and have worked in various roles supporting our residents.

What I enjoy about my job is that no two days are the same and most of all, I thoroughly enjoy everyday activities with the residents including 1-2-1 room visits all the way to professional singers visiting us. A firm favourite of mine and the residents at West Abbey is using our mini-bus weekly and visiting local nature hot spots! I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Mini Bus Trip

Our residents here at West Abbey have been out and about on our mini bus to visit Novo Garden Centre in Ilchester this week. The visit included purchasing new plants and flowers for our gardens before the team at Yeovil in Bloom came to judge our gardens!

Mini Bus Trip

Our residents here at West Abbey have been out on our mini-bus to visit Yeovil Nature Park whilst we had the mild weather recently. The residents and colleagues enjoyed a walk around exploring followed by a pitstop coffee and slice of cake before returning home.

Community Cafe

Here at West Abbey we have held our monthly community cafe this morning with guest speaker Clinical Reflexology and Growth! We host our community cafe on the third Tuesday of every month at 10:30am. It’s a fantastic opportunity to come together and enjoy tea, coffee and home made cake. Every month includes a local professional or guest speaker. July we will be joined by Yeovil PCSO team!

Celebrating Home Carers

Here at West Abbey we have continued the National Carers Week celebrations by heading out into the local town and meeting our everyday heroes in the home care sector. The team at West Abbey went out to meet Bluebird Care (UK) and Home Instead to thank them for their dedicated commitment to the elderly community living at home in Yeovil and surrounding areas.

National Carers Week

Here at West Abbey we have been celebrating our team here for Nationals Carers Week. This was a fantastic opportunity to show our appreciation for our dedicated and hard working team. The team were rewarded with a selection of chocolate and flowers from our General Manager. Thank you for all you do!

Strength Class

Here at West Abbey we have been enjoying our regular exercise class. Craig and the team from Communifit visit us every other week to help our residents with light exercises to promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce fall risk.
