Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Shayla Sharmeen

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Shayla and I'm the activities coordinator here at White Lodge.

Prior to taking the position, I joined White Lodge as care assistant in 2022 and loved every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Ground Force at White Lodge

Our Resident Ground Force team were back in action again this week as we continued to work on our courtyard here at White Lodge Care Home. Gardening provides opportunities for increased physical activity, which can prevent osteoporosis, reduce the risk of some cancers, Type 2 diabetes, depression and heart disease so we take every opportunity we can to be outside with purpose.

NHS Choir pays us a visit

Staff and residents were incredibly lucky to be visited by The Great Western Hospitals NHS Choir who provided us with an afternoon of songs and enjoyment

One of our residents, Eric, requested if he could have a visit from the choir in his room which the team arranged for the day, followed by a big performance for all our family and friends of the home. Thank you to the NHS Choir!

Beautiful Surroundings

We are incredibly lucky to have the surroundings we do here at White Lodge. With beautiful gardens, our very own lake and forestry all in the grounds of the home, residents like to take daily walks for fresh air and take in the stunning landscapes on offer. All of our bedrooms have a unique view of our outside spaces. Its simply stunning!

Swindon Town Gardens

The residents at White Lodge went out on a mini bus trip to the Swindon Town Garden to attend their cherry blossom festival! The festival is running from 20th to 28th of April and the residents didn't want to miss the chance to experience the breathe taking beauty of cherry blossom!

One of our residents used to live next to the town garden so it was lovely to bring her back so that she could remember past visits when she used to bring her dog for a walk in the gardens. She couldnt thank us enough for the visit!

After a walk, we stopped for ice cream from the cafe and had a chat with locals. It was a lovely afternoon with lots of beautiful flowers and fresh air!

It was amazing to see the family members attending it and most importantly our residents enjoyed it. We are planning ahead for the next one on 15th May. It would be lovely to see you all attending the next one.
