Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Activities Coordinator

Shayla Sharmeen

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Shayla and I'm the activities coordinator here at White Lodge.

Prior to taking the position, I joined White Lodge as care assistant in 2022 and loved every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Arts and Crafts with Shells

The week started with creativity!

Today morning we had a activity planning meeting with the residents where we discussed about what activities we want to do this week.

After lunch we coloured lots of sea shells, let them dry and stick them around a vase. The decorated flower vase was appreciated by everybody! This gave the residents a sense of achievement.

Later in afternoon we did crosswords in the lounge with a cup of tea and enjoyed the sunshine!

Garden Games

The weather might not be very pleasant this summer but the residents are enjoying the sunshine whenever they can!

For the elderly, engaging in outdoor activities is a time-honoured way of improving mental health, enhancing relationships, reducing feelings of isolation, encouraging energy, speeding up recovery, lowering stress, fighting depression and anxiety, and contributing to general overall health.

Yesterday the residents at white lodge played garden/outdoor target ball game. We made sure to practice before we started playing! The game was pretty hard as we had 2 winners Jessie and Graham and both of them scored 200. Then we decided to play a tie breaker round and Graham won the game this time but he gave his prize to Jessie, how nice of him!!!

Flower Arranging

The residents at white lodge had did flower arranging this morning and decided to put them around the lounge so that they can enjoy fresh flower when they are having a cup of tea.

One of the residents Josephine said, I have done flower arranging all my life, I have won competition too. I love fresh flowers and I would like to do it every week.

Flower arranging for older adults is a great way to keep happy and active while also stimulating intellect and encouraging social contact.

Happy 98th birthday to our lovely Ruth

Staff and residents got together to celebrate Ruth's special day with her and her family. She is a wonderful woman, caring wife, amazing mother, passionate about knitting, loves reading, always appreciates the staff for whatever they do, motivates the young generation....what else can I say about Ruth. We just love you and wish you a good health. Happy Birthday!

Cooking club with Chef Richard

Our residents joined the cooking club today as the activity of the day supervised by our head chef Richard. They prepared dough for cookies which they enjoyed a lot.

Cooking brings alive the senses of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. It's also a great alternative to being sedentary in a chair. Baking is tactical and requires hand-eye coordination. Doing it often can keep you sharp and even elevate your mood or help you relax.
