Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Shayla Sharmeen

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Shayla and I'm the activities coordinator here at White Lodge.

Prior to taking the position, I joined White Lodge as care assistant in 2022 and loved every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Celebrating Cheesecake Day

We had a successful cheesecake and tea party at white lodge this afternoon to celebrate the cheesecake day!

National cheesecake day is celebrated on July 30. It is the perfect occasion to have a slice of one of America’s favourite desserts which comes in many different varieties. Our residents had the choices of New York cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake, blueberry cheesecake, toffee cheesecake, triple chocolate cheesecake, lemon cheesecake.

All the staff of white lodge came along to put the party together. Thanks to our amazing kitchen team who never let us down, the cheesecakes were amazing!

Arts & crafts

Today at white lodge, we got bored with solving puzzles so thought of doing some fun with them! We coloured the back of the jigsaw puzzle pieces and put them together in a hanging decorative piece.

Arts and crafts is a great way to support fine motor skills and dexterity. This particular craft activity is a fantastic opportunity for participants to flex their creative muscles. The activity can be as open ended as you wish it to be, with each person adapting their wreath to their tastes.

Our General Manager Ramona, Deputy Manager Ioana, Samantha and Katie from Lucy pet carer were the honourable judges and they took help from the residents to decide the winners. Special thanks to Samantha, Katie and their team for volunteering and all their support.

Our amazing chef made delicious sausage rolls spring rolls, mini sausages, onion bhajis, samosas, tea and coffee. We also had toys, treats, and water bowls for the dogs. The paw card station and photo booth was loved by everybody!

Musical Bingo

Residents played musical bingo this afternoon. We listened to 50 different tunes to match 20 songs on our list. The highest number was guessed 19 by Joyce Curtis which was amazing.

Music therapy aim to allow people to address issues and express themselves in a way that they normally can't with words alone. It approaches to bettering the quality of life for elderly.

PAT Dog Visit

Residents at white lodge had a special visit from therapy dog "Siren". Thanks a lot to Theresa for bringing her to meet our residents.

Due to their sensitivity to human emotion, dogs make excellent therapy animals. They have repeatedly demonstrated sympathy and empathy by nuzzling or moaning when they detect a human being is unhappy or in general emotional pain. This therapy can trigger the release of endorphins, a feel-good neurotransmitter which gives a calming effect and boosts the level of serotonin, a chemical linked with happiness and well-being.
