Activities at The Wingfield Care Home
Here at The Wingfield our activities team provide a varied and interesting range of activities for all residents. We are registered with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) and we take pride in delivering activities that will enhance residents lives and bring happiness and a sense of purpose. Our cooking activities are very popular, as well as the regular book clubs, coffee mornings, skittle matches and bus trips. We provide one to one support for those who are unable to attend activities and we have tea dances, musicians, quizzes, music and movement, as well as our giant scrabble board! But most importantly we have fun! Relatives are always welcome and there is always much laughter and smiling faces during our activities. We take pride in what we do and we continually strive to enhance residents lives through meaningful activity.

Life at The Wingfield Care Home
Whitehall Garden Centre
We recently enjoyed a fantastic morning at Whitehall Garden Centre. Admiring the beautiful flowers and visiting the animals before enjoying a hot beverage and slice of cake in the café. It was a morning full of fun and laughter and we all had such a lovely time.
National Beer Day
The residents enjoyed a relaxing afternoon tasting a variety of beers to celebrate National Beer Day this year. Some of our residents played games and had snacks in our very own bar lounge, aptly named 'The Wingfield Arms,' while others chose to enjoy a tasting session in the comfort of their rooms.
This simple activity made a significant difference to many of our residents' day and brought back fond memories.
Ladies Day at the Races
We had a busy day at the home celebrating Ladies Day at Ascot this year. We spent the morning doing some arts and crafts creating some fabulous hats, which we then wore at our ‘Ladies Day Afternoon Tea’ hosted in one of our beautiful gardens. It was lovely to bring everyone together for the afternoon and we all had a great time!
International Nurses Day
Sunday 12th May marked International Nurses Day and to commemorate the day we delivered a hamper of treats to our neighbour Widbrook Medical Practice, the residents also made cards for all the nurses that work at our home.
International Nurses Day is a day to recognise Nurses around the world and to celebrate their contributions to the nursing profession. We are very proud to have such a good team of nurses working at our home.
VE-Day Celebrations
We had a wonderful day celebrating VE-Day at the home this year. A morning spent reminiscing followed by a party in the Pavilion in the afternoon. A live performance from James Hogg who regularly sings for us and delicious refreshments provided by our Chef. It was lovely to hear stories from the residents about that momentous day back in 1945. Lots of them recalled having street parties and celebrating with family and friends, some even travelled to London to be amongst the crowds in Trafalgar Square.
A Dream Come True
The Wingfield granted another one of our resident’s wishes this month, by taking her ice-skating! Resident, Margaret had not been since she was about 18 years old and expressed that it was something she had always wanted to try again but felt her mobility now restricted her from doing so. The staff at the home were able to prove to both Margaret and her fellow residents at the home that the home will do all it can to support them in overcoming any limitations to achieve their dreams.
Staff supported Margaret and a close friend of hers, also a resident from the home to the Link Centre in Swindon. The ladies thoroughly enjoyed gliding across the ice and even did a couple of spins! In response to this wonderful experience Margaret said: “I was shocked and overwhelmed that after all these years I was back on the ice again. I last went ice-skating when I was about 18 years old and I wasn’t very good back then! I didn’t think it would be possible for me to go ice-skating again now that I use a wheelchair but the staff here at the home helped make that happen for me.”
