Activities at The Wingfield Care Home

Here at The Wingfield our activities team provide a varied and interesting range of activities for all residents. We are registered with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) and we take pride in delivering activities that will enhance residents lives and bring happiness and a sense of purpose. Our cooking activities are very popular, as well as the regular book clubs, coffee mornings, skittle matches and bus trips. We provide one to one support for those who are unable to attend activities and we have tea dances, musicians, quizzes, music and movement, as well as our giant scrabble board! But most importantly we have fun! Relatives are always welcome and there is always much laughter and smiling faces during our activities. We take pride in what we do and we continually strive to enhance residents lives through meaningful activity.

Serious Game of Chess!

Chess is a game of strategy thinking ahead to future moves all the time so no wonder this game with Len and Pilery looks serious. It is so important that residents at The Wingfield continue with their interests and we are fortunate to have a chess player on the team!

The Wingfield Deliver Blue Light Breakfasts

The Wingfield General Manager, Annie and the team went out today to deliver Blue Light Breakfasts. These were very well received including by the team from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

We know how hard all our emergency services work and often there isn't time for a break, so this was an opportunity to say thank you. The Wingfield's doors are always open to the Wiltshire emergency services to call in for a comfort break and refreshments.

Dream Comes True Revisiting Childhood Memories

The amazing Wingfield team have made another resident's wish come true.   Resident, John Williams has such fond memories of going out with the horse and cart to deliver milk as a child he asked the team if he could go and visit some shire horses. Tracey Page, the Head of Maintenance arranged for a visit to Radford Shires near Bath. Tracey said “It is so heart-warming to make a resident’s dream come true. Thank you so much to Tracey and Collin who own Radford Shires for their time and the kindness shown to John, it has been such a special experience for us all.”

John, recalled is memories of working on the milk floats “I lived in Quinton, Birmingham and can remember at 4 years old I would go out to see Dennis the driver of the cart and his horse Roger when they made their deliveries. I was desperate to go out on the round and Dennis said if you come to the dairy at 4am you can come out with me. I don’t think he expected me to get up so early, but I woke my mum the next day and she took me to the yard; from that day I went out regularly with Dennis until I was 11, only stopping as the old dairy closed and electric milk floats came in. I can remember being given 6 pence for helping. Roger was such an incredible horse and I have loved shire horses ever since”

John described the experience, “I am so grateful to the team here at The Wingfield for arranging this trip just for me. It really has bought back so many memories and I was so happy to be up close to a shire horse again. I felt so emotional when at the end of the visit Tracey and Colin presented me with a photo to keep, thank you so much for everything”.

Love is all Around

There is always plenty of love and warmth at The Wingfield but today there was that little bit more as we celebrated Valentine's Day.  The Pavilion was decorated with love for a wonderful performance from singer Jessica Fay Long.  It was lovely that some of our residents' partners could join them and everyone enjoyed some well-know songs and entertainment.

College Students on Placement at The Wingfield

It was a great start to the week at The Wingfield. Every Monday this term we are delighted to have Celestial and Erin from Wiltshire College & University Centre on their placement for their BTEC in Health and Social Care. Celestial and Erin will be spending time with residents and learning about all the departments that operate within the home.

Sylvia taught Celestial about crosswords! This afternoon we welcomed back Anthony and Lorna, Anthony is a talented pianist whose wife Lorna accompanies him with her beautiful singing. There was singing and dancing to classic songs including "I could have danced all night" and "when you're smiling (the whole world smiles with you....)" In the Lodge Anthony also played a piece from the film Ladies in Lavender by Nigel Hess. Thank you both for such an enjoyable afternoon.

We look forward to welcoming Celestial and Erin on Mondays over the coming weeks and wish them well with their course.
