Activities at Wood Grange Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Ruby-Mae Walker
Hello, my name is Ruby-Mae and I am the activities Co-Ordinator here at Wood Grange.
My background is working in dance education and production as well as experience in the mental health care sector. I am extremely passionate about my role here in promoting life enrichment within the home and I feel privileged to work alongside such amazing people, and to be a part of our residents lives, spending quality time with them on a regular basis. I work alongside Louise to plan and organise daily activities to suit our resident’s needs, Louise and I are very enthusiastic about our roles and the resident’s well-being is always at the forefront of our minds.
I love to dance, keep fit by going to the gym and spending time with family.

Life at Wood Grange Care Home
Football Final
We all spent the day playing football sports to get into the spirit for the final. We played a game of football in the morning in the garden, and played the football game on the sensory table, which was great fun. Watching the football in the evening, we all had a glass of bubbly/beer or two, and there was lots of cheering to be heard.
Film Club
All the residents really enjoyed watching Mama Mia at film club. We were all up dancing and singing along to the classic ABBA songs.
Happy 96th Birthday!
A resident's family asked if we could organise a surprise birthday party for her and 7 guests. We were more than happy to make the day so special and organise it. It was such a wonderful afternoon!
Knitting Session
Our residents have enjoyed doing some knitting. Some explained how it brought back happy memories of when their mothers used to teach them how to knit, helping them reminisce on the good ol' days. One residents was teaching the staff how to do different stitches, from a plain stitch to a pearl stitch.
National Handwriting Day
Our residents enjoyed meeting their intellectual needs by celebrating National Handwriting Day. They were all really engaged and concentrating and all thoroughly enjoyed the handwriting activity sheets, enhancing their learning and development skills.
Golfing Gurus
We learned that a few of our residents used to play golf regularly, and that this was something they missed. We decided to buy a putting mat to see how this would work; residents loved it so now we are looking at how we can make a larger indoor golfing area.
