Activities at Ashlar House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Rita Green
As the Community Engagement Lead and Lifestyle Coordinator, I will be spending time with each resident and their loved ones to build a detailed picture of each individual, so that each person’s stay with us is as meaningful as possible. Although I have been working within this field for many years, thanks to the uniqueness of each resident, I am always enjoying new experiences in my role. My goal is to create an activities programme that caters to the capabilities of residents, including, but not limited to, individual and group activity.
I've spent the past few years forging strong relationships within the community and developing a pool of talented individuals that can support our in-house team to bring out the best in those we care for.
As we never stop growing and changing, it is important that we maintain an up-to-date Getting To Know Me booklet. With your help, the activities scheduled for your loved ones will be as relevant and enjoyable as possible.
I’m very much looking forward to working with all of you.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

That's not all! Our Memory Boxes are a special way for residents to reminisce and share their stories whether in a one-on-one conversation with our staff or as part of a group exchange. These personal keepsakes help spark memories, encourage meaningful discussions, and strengthen connections between residents and those who care for them.
By embracing each resident's unique journey, we create an environment where everyone feels heard, valued, and celebrated.
I’m very much looking forward to working with you all.

Hot Chocolate Day
At Barchester Ashlar House, we believe in making every moment special for our residents, and what better way to bring warmth and joy than by celebrating Hot Chocolate Day!
Our residents, families and team indulged in rich, creamy hot chocolate, topped with a variety of delicious toppings of their choice from fluffy mini marshmallows and chocolate shavings to caramel drizzle and, of course, a generous swirl of whipped cream for those who fancied an extra treat, a splash of chocolate liqueur was added for a delightful twist!
The event was set up in our relaxed lounge, where all could enjoy their treats while socializing with a touch of jazz music softly playing in the background, or in the comfort of their own rooms for those who preferred a cosy, quiet moment.
It was a wonderful day filled with smiles, laughter, and the comforting taste of a classic winter favourite. Here’s to many more heart-warming celebrations at Ashlar House!

Evening Pyjama Party
At Barchester Ashlar House, we believe in creating meaningful moments for our residents, ensuring they feel comfortable, engaged, and at ease. With this in mind, we introduced a special evening Pyjama Party, thoughtfully designed to bring warmth and relaxation especially for those living with dementia.
The event offers a cosy and calming atmosphere, featuring fire log displays, soft side lights, plush cushions, and gentle activities to help residents unwind and feel at home. The familiar, peaceful setting encourages a sense of security and joy, making it a perfect way to end the evening with our friends and staff, who took the great opportunity of taking part in having fun.
These moments of connection and comfort are at the heart of what we do.
Welcome to Barchester Ashlar House, where every moment is made with care and warmth.

International Lego Day
Lego Day was an incredible success, bringing together our residents and the lively little ones from Bright Horizons, aged 3 to 4 years old. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as bright colours and creative Lego creations filled the room.
The children's imaginations ran wild as they built towers, houses, and vehicles with the help and encouragement of our residents. The intergenerational bonding was heart-warming, as laughter and stories were shared over the snap of bricks. Both groups inspired one another. Our residents shared their wisdom and creativity, while the children brought their boundless energy and fresh ideas.

A Birthday to Remember
Bill was absolutely stunned when he walked into Ashlar to find his family and friends gathered to celebrate his special day. The room was filled with joy, laughter, and the spirit of the roaring 20's talk that brought back fond memories for Bill, who eagerly shared stories from those incredible times.
While everyone sang, danced, and enjoyed the festivities, a slideshow of cherished moments from Bill's life played in the background, adding a sentimental touch. From the inflatable cake to the party hats, every detail made the celebration unforgettable. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and countless memories that will be treasured.
