Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

International Women's Day at Boroughbridge Manor

Happy International Women’s Day!

In recognition of the day, we commemorated the wonderful achievements of women around the world and celebrated with themed activities and music and lots of laughter.

Our residents took part in discussions about the role of many different women who have shaped history from Cleopatra and Boudicca to Florence Nightingale and Marie Curie right through to the Queen and Mrs Thatcher.

In the afternoon, they got involved in a themed quiz with the support of Oomph Wellness and enjoyed creating this amazing video.

A lovely day was had by all.

British Pie Week at Boroughbridge Manor

Throughout one of the most delicious weeks of the year, our residents kicked off the week and got involved in fun-filled activities and pie tasting sessions.

Pies are considered as a British National dish and we spent some time learning about the history of pies and exploring different recipes.

Of course we had to make something! The residents decided they wanted to make some delicious banoffee pies! They went down a treat!

We all had a wonderful time.

World Wildlife Day at Boroughbridge Manor

Today we marked World Wildlife Day in support of animals and plants across the world and to raise awareness of the extraordinary diversity of wildlife and marine life that we have today.

Our residents loved learning about all the different species of animals.

In recognition of World Wildlife Day we had a game of ‘name that animal sound’ with a variety of wildlife activity packs which were provided by Oomph Wellness. We even used our magic table Social-Ability. Residents enjoyed colouring in the wildlife pictures, they had a wonderful time and to finish off we listened to Elvis on the magic table’s radio!

Pancake Day at Boroughbridge Manor

The first day of March was busy as we marked not only St David’s Day but also Pancake Day. Pancake Day or Shove Tuesday is the traditional feast day before the Lent on Ash Wednesday.

Our residents had a wonderful day, filled with pancake-inspired activities, they prepared homemade pancakes and decorated them with fresh fruit, berries, syrup and chocolate. It’s safe to say they went down a treat!

It was a fun day, enjoyed by all.

St David's Day celebrations at Boroughbridge Manor

Celebrations have been under way as we marked St David’s Day today to acknowledge the patron saint of Wales.

To be in line with Welsh traditions, we decorated our home with flags, daffodils and leeks.

We spent the morning enjoying a painting class ran by Activities Coordinator, Shelbie where residents painted some beautiful daffodils. We were then treated to traditional lunch of Welsh food and drinks, such as Welsh cakes and Leek and Lamb Cawl.

It was a great day, enjoyed by all.

Celebrations in honour of Elizabeth Taylor’s birthday

Residents and staff at Boroughbridge Manor celebrated what would have been Elizabeth Taylor’s birthday.

To honour one of the most popular stars of classical Hollywood cinema in the 1950s, we spent time learning interesting facts about her early life and career, and we watched one of her famous films Cleopatra.

Our residents got involved in reminiscing conversations about cinema, famous actors and films.

It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.
