Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2013, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Kelly have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Preparations for Queen Elizabeth's Birthday

This week residents have been busy making birthday cards for the Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II is turning 96 on Thursday 21st April so residents decided to make her some beautiful cards to send to her. We hope they get to her in time!

On Thursday 21st we will be celebrating the Queen’s birthday in style with a high tea, a glass of bubbly and of course a royal quiz.

National Scrabble Day

The home was in high spirits as we celebrated the day in style by organising an inter-home scrabble competition, residents enjoyed learning about the history of Scrabble.

Originally Scrabble was called Criss Cross, which was based on the crossword puzzle and anagrams, it was developed by Alfred M. Butts an architect in 1931, however it was later redesigned and renamed as Scrabble then eventually came to Britain in 1954 and to this day is still a very popular word game.

The day finished off with a Scrabble quiz and delicious afternoon treats, which brought smiles and laughter into the home.

Many of the residents take pleasure in playing scrabble and find it relaxing, they also enjoy making new friends along the way.

International Day of Human Space

We marked International Day of Human Space Flight by finding out about what it is to travel to outer space and spend time there.

The day takes place on 12 April, which is the date of the first human space flight by Yuri Gagarin in 1961. Space travel and technology have changed so much since then.

Our residents were treated to a variety of themed quizzes and games provided by Oomph Wellness. Residents enjoyed making their very own straw rockets which they tested and surprisingly, they worked brilliantly!

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Easter Egg Hunt with Local School

We went to Roecliffe CE Primary School last week for an Easter Egg Hunt.

Everyone had an egg-cellent time!

As a thank you we received this beautiful Easter card from class 3. The residents were so happy!

Thank you so much for having us, we hope you all have a wonderful Easter!

Virtual event with the Wallace Collection

We had a lovely time joining Holly and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to the Collection, followed by a sensory exploratory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.

The Collection ranges from Old Master paintings to 18th century French furniture, arms and armour.

We all had a wonderful time and cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and paint some landscapes in the upcoming days.

Palm Sunday

To celebrate Palm Sunday we had a go at making some Palm crosses provided by Oomph Wellness.

Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The feast commemorates Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Palm Sunday marks the first day of Holy Week.

This afternoon we also made an Easter Egg bonnet for Easter and of course we had to try some hats on!

The residents had a wonderful day.
