Activities at Broadway Halls Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Scott Bates
Hi I'm Scott, and I am privileged to be the Activities Co-ordinator at Broadway Halls.
Our Residents are special people with many wonderful stories to tell about their lives, and it is my job to understand their life history, their interests and theirs needs in order to deliver a person centred life enrichment programme.
I enjoy putting smiles on their faces as often as I can. I love to entertain and aim to ensure that every resident's interests and hobbies are supported. I have worked in care and in activities in previous roles, and I love my job!
Outside of work, I am busy being a Father, I try to play football and have a keen interest in metal detecting.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Let's Go Fishing
What an amazing day Residents had at 'Free Let's Fish', Dudley. Thank you so much to the anglers/coaches for their time and for tapping into the memories of our Residents. During the session we reminisced about their experiences of fishing with family, their children and for one Resident it even brought ignited memories of owning his own boat, the time beside the water stimulated these fond memories for him.
We all had a great time getting involved with casting the poles and attaching the bate - it was hard going and unfortunately we didn't get a bite, but that’s the way it goes in fishing sometimes and it hasn't put us off!
The Residents then enjoyed hot drinks and snacks from Bumble Hole friends of nature and conservation visiting centre and we even feed the swans, geese and ducks.
The weather was nice to us with the sun shining down for most of the day. We then headed home for lunch, which ironically was fish and chips - this made the Residents smile!
Thank you to Roger our volunteer for the day, he came all the way from New York to help us out.
Thank you for the Canal & River Trust for putting on these events, it is so rewarding for so many people.
Easter Egg Hunt
The Broadway Halls Easter Hunt was an EGGciting day for all of us! We had so many children from the community get involved, each of them braving the rain to find chicks, eggs and bunnies in our lovely Priory Park! Each item had a letter, and the children had to hunt for all of the pictures to get all of the letters to make our two words: "Easter Monday"!
Well done and thank you to everyone that joined in the free event. It was so nice to see families outside getting some fresh air and working together to solve the words to the hunt. To celebrate their hard work, everyone received an Easter egg or chocolate bunny from the Broadway Halls Easter Chick!
Easter Crafting
What an amazing week we’ve had here at Broadway Halls.
Residents have been making paper flowers to put on the dining tables over Easter! When asked what they wanted to pull together as an Easter craft, our residents were keen on making the home feel in keeping with the current season, so we decided some flowers were the best idea! They each handmade their own bright and beautiful bouquets, from the stems to the petals, and placed them in individual vases ready to be displayed on the dining tables over Easter weekend.
It was lovely to see the residents getting so involved, and they were all very proud of the finished products!
Handmade Gifts from Dudley College
In a heartwarming display of compassion and community spirit, college students from Dudley College studying health and social care recently designed handmade gifts and cards for our residents. This thoughtful gesture not only brightened up the day for our residents but also brought intergenerational connections and smiles to everyone faces.
The college students embraced the opportunity to spread joy and kindness to those in need. With creativity and enthusiasm, they dedicated time and effort to crafting handmade gifts and heartfelt cards, infused with messages of love, encouragement, and warmth at Easter time.
Beyond the exchange of gifts, this initiative facilitated meaningful interactions between college students and the residents, bridging the generation gap and nurturing mutual understanding and respect. Through shared conversations, laughter, and singing, both age groups discovered commonalities, forged new friendships, and learned from each other's life stories.
Thank you and Happy Easter to you all.
Intergenerational Fun!
What a lovely morning we have had at Baad babes with the mother and toddler group.
Residents got to interact with children from 0-5 years. When residents visit kids’ nurseries, they step into vibrant spaces filled with laughter, curiosity, and boundless energy. Interacting with young children brings a sense of joy and wonder to seniors, evoking cherished memories and instilling a renewed sense of purpose. Likewise, children benefit from the wisdom, life experiences, and affectionate presence of their older counterparts.
There was so much fun and laughter, everyone was offered a hot drink, toast and snacks.
Residents joined in with the nursery rhymes sang by the children. It was so nice to see the smiles and happiness in everyone involved.
Residents and children form meaningful relationships built on mutual respect, trust, and affection, bridging the generation gap and creating a sense of unity and belonging.
Thank you for letting us join in with the session!
Socialising with PomPoms 4 Loneliness
We went to Social Prescribing Day, hosted by Pom-Poms 4 Loneliness at Jack Newell Court.
There was arts & crafts, a gardening table, various games and even a session of laughter yoga which had our residents in stitches! Entertainment was provided by The Black Country radio Busketeers who sang some of the old songs which they really enjoyed singing and clapping along to.
Hot drinks and delicious cakes were served all morning. The residents had a fabulous time and said it was lovely getting out in the community. Thanks so much to the PomPoms 4 Loneliness team for inviting us!
