Activities at Elm Bank Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Tina Prosho

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Tina, I have been a team member at Elm Bank since 2023 and began my career as a Team Leader and was upskilled to Head of Care before moving my role to become Activities Coordinator.

I am passionate individual with vibrant character and my goal is all about life enriching activities that enhance the lives of our residents. I ensure that the entertainment is stimulating and is inclusive of all our residents no matter their challenges. It is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, visits to various locations outside the home of interest, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities. We are a pet friendly home and fully support the benefits animal therapy can bring to the lives of our residents and welcome animals of all kinds to the home on a regular basis.

Getting to know our residents better is so important to me, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining Elm Bank that will make for a richer activities program to be developed. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Enjoying the Sunshine

This week we have been making the most of the amazing weather and having fun in the sun!

Getting out in the fresh air to do some of the weekly activities has been great. With lashing of sun cream on, sun hats and chairs strategically place in the shade our residents enjoyed the ‘Big Garden Quiz’ followed by a round of ‘Elm Bank Family Fortunes’.

During the quiz we all learnt new facts about fruit and vegetables which lead to the residents planning the purchase of new plants for the raised beds and greenhouse.

It’s been wonderful to relax in the Elm Bank garden, chatting about things we can do outside from general activities to garden parties!

Big thanks to the hospitality team for keeping us cool and hydrated, with fresh fruit, juice and ice creams, and special thanks to Home Manager; Katie for the super array of sun hats to ensure we all stay safe in sunshine.

World Environment Day

For World Environment Day we invited Louisa who works as a Waste Education and Communications Officer at North Northamptonshire Council

We had a wonderful talk about where our waste goes and what our recycling can be made into after it's been recycled. We learnt about the importance of recycling and how as a home we can improve on helping the environment.

Thank you Louisa for coming into the home and giving a talk to residents and staff.

Garden Song & Dance

Live entertainment in the beautiful Elm Bank garden courtesy of Steve Carmel. With songs from the 60’s Steve delighted our residents with his on-point Cliff Richard.

As the sun shone, and our residents soaked up its warming rays, Steve had us all up singing and dancing!

Young Visitors Get Involved

From knit and natter to potting plants, our residents really enjoyed getting to know the two young ladies; Lacey and Ella who visited Elm Bank to volunteer their time and make intergenerational links with the home.

It was lovely to see our residents chatting away about school and their interests as the girls spent time knitting, helping with lunch and getting their hands dirty potting plants with the gardening club.

Thank you both so much for spending quality time with us all; your conversation and infectious smiles made our day!

Having the Craic!

Having the Craic at Elm Bank with Emily and Atlanta.

Our residents are always interested in hearing about new areas they have visited or hope to visit. We took a virtual vacation to Ireland after the morning's cooking session, which involved creating soda bread.

While seated comfortably in our armchairs and receiving an Irish passport and some Euros from Emily and Atlanta, we loved learning about the local culture, traditions, and music. Emily displayed a bodhrán, or "Irish drum," that her mother had lent her. We all managed a beat on the bodhrán while Irish music played in the background!

Kitchen baked our soda bread which went down very well with afternoon tea

Lunch at the Local

Who doesn't enjoy a trip to the local pub? Last week, a happy band of Elm Bank residents met with friends, and family members for lunch at The Trading Post in Kettering.

We look forward to the next outing as we fulfil our residents' wishes. We intend to visit many different local establishments, pubs, cafes, and points of interest around Kettering during the summer months ahead.
