Activities at Elm Bank Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Tina Prosho

Activities Lead

Hello my name is Tina and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Elm Bank Care Home.

I joined Elm Bank in May 2023 as a Team Leader soon becoming the Head of Care before moving to the role of Activities Coordinator and leading the team in January 2024. My passion is to provide life enriching activities that enhance the lives of our residents.

By providing entertainment that is not only stimulating but person-centred. Our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, visits to various locations outside the home of interest, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities. We are a pet friendly home and fully support the benefits animal therapy can bring to the lives of our residents and welcome animals of all kinds to the home on a regular basis.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining Elm Bank that will make for a richer activities program to be developed. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Celebrating Chinese New Year

On Sunday 22nd January we welcomed in the Year of the Rabbit with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, our residents and staff exchanged lucky red envelopes and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns and artworks created by our residents.

We learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year. The home's hospitality team cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food and reading their fortune cookies courtesy of Chans Brambleside.

Arnel Berido, General Manager said: “We have had a brilliant day, the home looks absolutely wonderful decorated all in red. Many of our staff dressed in red for the event and we all had fun watching videos of traditional lion and dragon dances, shaking our pompoms to the rhythmic drumming."

Creating New Community Links and Friendships

The Elm Bank team led by our Home Manager; Arnel have been out and about in Kettering and Corby delivering goodie bags and getting to know their health, and community support team colleagues.

Our mission is to say a big THANK YOU for all you do and make our local communities aware of the care services we provide, and the exciting events on at Elm Bank Care Home open to all.

From weekly activities, to our monthly Dementia Friendly Café and Carer Support Group, to the weekly Don’t Dine Alone – 'Souper Day’ campaign that offers a warming bowl of soup and a soft roll to older people within our community feeling alone, and in need of some company throughout the winter months (Every Friday).

All events and activities are complimentary, and give our residents, and staff the opportunity to meet and greet new friends.

Let’s celebrate getting and staying active!

The first North Northamptonshire Active Communities Awards ceremony was held at Kettering Conference Centre on Wednesday 16th November 2022 at which local Sports Performers, Clubs, Schools, Groups and Organisations were recognised and celebrated.

We are pleased to announce that Elm Bank resident ‘Sheila’ became a WINNER!

Sheila was nominated for the award by Alena and Bekki for the Get Active Award for 'The Best Improved' category. Shelia with the support of the home team has been attending seated exercise classes every week despite breaking her hip in three places and restricted use of one of her arms.

She participated every class with a smile, motivation and was always ready to push herself at the classes, and continued the routines back at the home.

The North Northamptonshire Active Community Awards team said that Sheila tried every exercise and encouraged others throughout the sessions.

Following the sessions Sheila saw a massive improvement in her range of movements and mobility proving that regular seated exercise is beneficial whatever your age!

Congratulations Sheila from all at Elm Bank, we’re so very proud of you!

Barchester Healthcare understand the importance of a varied life enrichment programme, one that keeps our residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
