Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Fundraising for Ukraine

Residents and staff from Barchester’s Fairview House care home in Danestone are fundraising to try to help ease the suffering of people affected by the war in Ukraine.

Desperately wanting to help in whatever way they can, staff and residents put their heads together to come up with a plan to help raise funds.  They landed on the idea of sip and paint sessions, coffee mornings where residents, staff and friends of the home will paint hearts in all different shapes and sizes and sell them for £1 to family, friends and local community groups with all proceeds going to help people of Ukraine.

General Manager, Janet Decourt, says: “We all had the same feeling that we had to do something but we felt at a loss to know what to do to help.  That’s when we came up with the idea of painting the symbolic hearts to raise some money which we will donate to Ukraine.  We hope everyone will get behind us to help us to help much-needed funds.”

March Mystery Box

Mystery Box time! We love creating monthly themed activity boxes for our residents and this month our theme was "By the beach" we were excited about this one and the residents were too! Each box contained some fizzy drinks, sweets, painting seashells, kinetic sand to make mini sand castles and our personal favourite pin the chips on the seagull!

What will next months theme be?

Residents enjoy a virtual tour of Cliveden from the National Trust Talks Service

We were treated to an amazing live virtual talk and a tour of Cliveden, hosted by the house and chapel guides from the National Trust Talks Service.

The volunteers kindly gave us a tour around the famous house taking an in-depth look at Cliveden’s many stories from its 350 year history, from devilish dukes to scandalous headlines and boundary-breaking garden designs to political notoriety.

Starting with the Duke of Buckingham who built the first house in 1666, our residents met the key owners who helped shape the house and its gardens including the Orkney, Sutherland and Astor families.

The talk was accompanied by an illustrated presentation which brought to life these individuals and showed how their influence at Cliveden still continues today.

We all had a brilliant time.

International Women's Day at Fairview House

Happy International Women’s Day! In recognition of the day, we commemorated the wonderful achievements of women around the world and celebrated with themed Ladies Tea Parties and a lovely talk by Fiona from Deen Divas.

Our residents took part in discussions about the role of many different women who have shaped history from Cleopatra and Boudica to Florence Nightingale and Marie Curie right through to the Queen and Mrs Thatcher.

A lovely day was had by all.
