Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Carols at Christmas

Fountains residents thoroughly enjoyed an evening of Christmas Carols held by The Alzheimer’s Society.

The performance was truly beautiful and everyone knew the carols and enjoyed singing along.

The tributes shared from families to loved ones was extremely moving and poignant.

The favourite performance of the night was the performance by “Scouting for Girls” singing “Last Christmas”.  All our residents were singing, clapping and dancing along.

Such a wonderful evening and topped off by learning that the evening raised over £60,000 for The Alzheimer’s Society!

Masterclass cake icing session

Fountains residents enjoyed a masterclass in Christmas cake icing with our talented Head Chef Colin Buss.

It was an interactive session with everyone encouraged to get involved.

The marzipan was rolled to start with and then the cake was iced.

Colin demonstrated the stippling technique to create a textured icing that resembled snow before encouraging our residents to also have a go.

It was a really fun session and everyone was really pleased with the end result. What a great joint effort!

Now to cut the cake……….

Christmas Wreath making

Christmas wreath making was the aim of the day.

Fountains hosted a Christmas wreath making session and invited the community to zoom in.

Our activities Co-ordinator Esme carried out the workshop and our residents really enjoyed the session.

Baubles, leaves, ribbons and other decorative props were used to create the Christmas wreaths.

The completed wreaths were hung on each residents doors and it was very satisfying for everyone to enjoy the finished product they had made.

Gingerbread Men

Our residents spent a lovely morning baking gingerbread men with classic Christmas tunes playing.

There was a lot of mixing and cutting out the individual men before baking and decorating.

The smell of the gingerbread men filled the home with a lovely festive smell and got everyone in the festive spirit.

All that was left was to take a seat and sample the goods…….

They certainly looked good enough to eat and they were!

Christmas lights switch on

Fountains staff and residents have been busy putting together the final touches for Christmas.

Christmas trees have been decorated, window displays painted and a lot of Christmas lights switched on.

Our official switch on of the Christmas tree lights was teamed with a wonderful outside performance by the Shirley Brass Band.

It was a very special evening of spiced mulled wine, homemade mince pies and festive music. Our residents said how wonderful it was to hear live music.

A big thank you to the special Elf that switched our lights on!

Designated Visiting Suite

Residents are overjoyed at Fountains care home in Shirley, Solihull as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a designated visiting room for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer.

The designated visiting room has been designed with both comfort and safety in mind. The room is similar to a living room with comfortable furnishings and heated to create a welcoming and warm environment for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones in the upcoming months. The room has an intercom system fitted so residents can clearly communicate, and engage in conversation, whilst being able to see their friends and family through a Perspex glass divider fitted for safety to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Infection control protocols and safe social distancing are in place for every visit, including a hand sanitizer station before entry. Cleaning takes place after each visit to ensure chairs, seats, hard surfaces including windowsills, and the Perspex glass divider are wiped down appropriately.
