Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Christmas card entry

Fountains residents have been preparing for Christmas and have started to make their own Christmas Cards for our friends and pen pals out in the community.

One of our residents made such a lovely Christmas tree design card that we thought it was worthy of entering into Solihull Branch Parkinsons Uk “Design A Christmas Card” Competition.

Good luck Gloria!

Shoe Box Appeal

Fountains are putting together shoe boxes for those less fortunate this Christmas.

Christmas will be very different this year and we would like to spread a little cheer by putting together Christmas Shoe Box parcels for families to enjoy.

We have a donation box outside Fountains for anyone who has items they would be happy to donate for our residents to put together some exciting parcels.

We are requesting items such as cuddly toys, stationary, toiletries, confectionary, non-perishable food, books, word searches, puzzle books, comics, gloves etc

All donations greatly appreciated. End date for items 13th December 2020.

Brownie Buddies

Lorraine Shannon, HSA for Fountains was delighted to be invited to 1st Earlswood Brownie Units zoom get together, to meet some of the brownies aged between 7-10yrs

The girls had been busy writing letters, which have since been shared with our residents and they are busing penning replies.

The Brownie Unit included our residents in their activity at home, which was making elephants out of milk carton bottles.

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the activity and made some lovely elephants.

Fountains is extremely proud of their community links and 1st Earlswood Brownies is no exception. We look forward to the day we can invite the girls into Fountains to meet the residents they have been writing to and vice versa.

National Homemade Bread Day 2020

Residents at Fountains enjoyed a masterclass on bread making from Fountains maintenance manager to mark National Homemade Bread Day.

Harvir regularly makes bread for himself and his family and was delighted to share his expertise with everyone.

It was a new experience for those involved and they certainly appreciated the hard work required to knead the dough so as to produce amazing bread.

It was definitely worth the effort though as seeing the bread rise brought a lot of joy and that was before the end result was sampled……

Everyone agreed the bread was the best they had ever tasted and discussions were quickly underway as to what bread they could make next time – festive bread came out as the winner so watch this space!

Festival Fun

Fountains residents and staff celebrated Diwali Festival of Light

Our residents enjoyed creating their own style of Rangoli, choosing the colours' and design to produce a beautiful and bright piece of art.

They were inspired by researching other rangoli's and learning about its meaning and place in the Festival celebrations.

The finished result included lights, colourful feathers, beads and ribbons.

No festival would be complete without good food and dancing so our wonderful kitchen team produced a delicious medley of indian starters including vegetable samosas, onion bhajis and  poppadoms with dips of mint yoghurt and mango chutney. The tasting experience was a delicious treat and everyone enjoyed the exotic flavours.

Bolywood dancing concluded the celebrations and our residents loved watching the talented dancers in their bright and beautiful outfits and couldn’t help but joining in.
