Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Louise Crooks

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Louise,  my first role with Barchester was caring for our residents.  Previously I worked in an early years environment for 17 years where I organised activities and events.  I am thrilled to now be Activities Lead and being able to continue enriching the life’s of our lovely residents here at Fountains.

Life at Fountains Care Home

Christmas Jumper Day

Christmas Jumper Day at Fountains Care Home saw the staff and residents get festive and don their festive wear.

Nutcracker Performance

Residents at Fountains enjoyed a virtual trip to The Nutcracker performed by the English National Ballet.

Our residents participated in some light ballet style exercises which they really enjoyed, with one resident saying “the exercises were the best she had ever done”.

They then went on to listen to an extract from The Nutcracker story with a live piano and dance performance.

This very special event was then concluded with a question and answer session with the cast and crew.

A really wonderful afternoon shared.

Nursery children send Christmas wishes

Mereside Farm Nursery remembered our residents by making and delivering Christmas cards.

Little John Weaver delivered the lovely cards to Fountains Care Home and our residents thoroughly enjoyed receiving them.

It brought a lot of smiles and laughter to see the lovely home made cards and read the messages within.

Thank you Mereside Farm Nursery.

Community Kindness

Fountains has had an exceptional week receiving kind donations from our community friends.

The shoe box appeal to date has been a huge success and we still have until 13th December for further donations. We have received toiletries, books, toys, non –perishable food, towels, nightwear and so much more. Our residents have been loving putting together amazing shoe boxes that we will be sharing with those in need this Christmas.

We have received fiddle muffs, kindly knitted by a local member of the community who would prefer to remain our anonymous hero, which our residents are enjoying.

Sewaday donated a wonderful box of traditional and non-traditional goodies to celebrate Diwali Festival, which has gone down a treat with our team.

We are feeling exceptionally lucky and grateful for our wonderful community.

Art class

Fountains has some beautiful views from all the lovely full length windows, so a nature inspired art class commenced.

Several of our residents took part and drew what they saw.

It was a huge success and the end results were some lovely first attempt paintings.

With the changing seasons we should have plenty of material to make this a regular class.

Pen pals

Fountains were delighted to be connected to Cheswick Green Primary School by Barrett and David Wilsons Homes

The kind hearted organisation had already kindly donated a Facebook portal for our residents and they wanted to develop a partnership between themselves, Fountains and the local school.

With Christmas looming and being concerned how the pandemic would affect the time spent with families for our residents, they approached the school to write to our residents.

We received over 20 letters from the children in Year 5 and our residents loved reading them. One resident said “reading and receiving those lovely letters has really brightened my day.”

They wasted no time in penning their replies.

Fountains now has many pen pals and receiving and responding to their lovely letters is an absolute joy.
