Activities at Highfield Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Kim Quean
Hello, my name is Kim and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Highfield Care Home.
I have 15 years' experience in care, 2 in senior care positions and 9 in activities. You will most likely find me dancing in a lounge or singing in the corridors, I also love a good dress up day!
I joined Barchester Healthcare in June 2024 and I am very excited to be part of the team here at Highfield.
It is a privilege to be part of an organisation which aligns so well with my own personal vision for residents wellbeing and quality of life.
I graduated University of Derby BSC, in integrative health and social care in January 2021 and completed NAPPA Level 2 Activity Provision in Adult Social Care the same year.
I look forward to working closely with you all, to ensure residents are happy, healthy and thriving.

Life at Highfield Care Home
National Day of Arts in Care Homes
Oils, watercolours and pastels were the order of the day at Highfield where the art-loving residents were keen to get involved in Art in Care Homes Day on September 24th. Art in Care Homes is a NAPA programme which aims to highlight the wellbeing benefits of arts, creativity and cultural engagement in care settings. Its aim is to promote the beneficial outcomes for care recipients, staff teams and relatives, champion good practice and encourage care settings to develop more creative activities and opportunities.
Staff and residents at Highfield care home celebrated the day by joining forces with Sophie from The Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield and taking part in an Art Workshop, exploring colour theory and shapes.
World Alzheimer’s Day
Today we marked World Alzheimer’s Day, to raise awareness and highlight the challenges that people living with dementia face.
Throughout the day, we got involved in a variety of themed activities, we spent time learning more about dementia and how to help change the way we think, act and talk about this condition.
Our residents were thrilled to show their creativity as they created supported by members of the care team personalised memory boxes.
We have all learned a great deal about the effects of Alzheimer’s today.
Greeting the neighbours.....
Here at Highfield Care Home, we are surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and there is an abundance of wildlife to sit and watch in our stunning gardens.
Our residents like to take a walk around our gardens and the current neighbourly horses are a favourite for our residents to talk to on their way around.
Spa afternoon
Residents at Highfield care home have enjoyed an afternoon of pampering as they were given a hand and nail therapy session. The team at the home were on hand to provide the resident centred pamper sessions, with residents enjoying treats such as cakes and refreshments whilst being given manicures and hand treatments.
What’s your favourite colour polish?
Indoor Boules!
Here at Highfield Care Home we discovered all of our residents here enjoy a lighthearted competitive game.
So, what better way to find that competitive edge than to play some indoor boules in one of our spacious lounges.
Alison one of our resident said "I really enjoyed the game and playing against other residents."
The winner was Eunice, who was above all else a humble winner!
We look forward to other games in the home to keep this competitive spirit going!
Virtual trip to Cornish Seal Sanctuary
A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!
Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.
Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
