Activities at Highfield Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Neil Barnard

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Neil, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Highfield! I joined the team and role in March 2025.

I love being around people and making a difference to those individuals. Just to see the smiles on their faces brings so much pleasure. I have been a vocalist since 2021, and singing brings me so much joy. You may hear me before you see me.

Don’t be shy—come say hello! I hope you can join us for the fun activities we have planned!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Highfield Care Home

A breath of fresh air

Our home is set in beautiful and tranquil open parkland, overlooking a lake and in close proximity to the historic Roman Catholic Church of Scarthingwell Park.

Our residents enjoy their many walks around the garden and exploring our neighbouring church.

And relax.....

We are very lucky to have multiple spaces to catch up with family and friends or simply relaxing after a busy week.

Our residents settled down in the cinema room, to relax and watch a classic movie with popcorn and refreshments, reminiscing with each other as they discussed their favourite movies.  Can you tell which film we are watching?

Mamma Mia Here We Go Again!

We had a showing of 'Mamma Mia' which was the number one choice by all the residents.

Some of the ladies requested Popcorn and Ice Cream while they enjoyed the film. It was a great afternoon, enjoyed by all - and now a Sunday Film Day is going to be a regular theme!

Barchester Big Quiz!

We’ve linked up with all Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide for Barchester’s Big Quiz.

Our residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

We all had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Trick or Treat!

This October we made a special connection with Barkston Ash Nursery, who joined Highfield residents for a fancy dress trick or treat afternoon. Residents were thrilled to hand out sweeties to the children and reminisce about all things Halloween.  There were some amazing costumes and we just couldn’t choose, everyone was a winner!!

Thank you to Joanne and the staff at Barkston Ash Nursery for taking the time to be involved, we hope the children enjoyed themselves as much as our residents and that we can continue to work together in the future.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

In recognition of Macmillan’s Coffee Morning, we hosted our very own coffee morning for friends, families and community members to raise funds for the charity.

Our cafe was specially decorated for the occasion, our talented chef prepared a variety of cakes, cupcakes and delicious treats, and our residents made Parkin for the fundraiser. We all had a wonderful day raising funds for this lovely cause.
