Activities at Highfield Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Neil Barnard

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Neil, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Highfield! I joined the team and role in March 2025.

I love being around people and making a difference to those individuals. Just to see the smiles on their faces brings so much pleasure. I have been a vocalist since 2021, and singing brings me so much joy. You may hear me before you see me.

Don’t be shy—come say hello! I hope you can join us for the fun activities we have planned!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Highfield Care Home

Gingerbread House Day

We love any excuse to get creative so when we found out it was Gingerbread House Day on December 12, we didn’t need any persuading to get cracking.

With a batch of gingerbread our residents got busy decorating with icing, buttercream, marshmallows, dolly mixture, candy canes and edible glitter to make some of the glitziest gingerbread houses in town.

The gingerbread houses look really lovely and they are indeed delicious - what a fun way to spend the afternoon.

Enjoying the lights and decorations at Tingley

Residents wrapped up warm and braved the cold for a trip to local garden centre – Tingley to browse the festive decorations and gifts.

Everyone enjoyed browsing and stocking up with Christmas gifts before settling down to enjoy a refreshing coffee and slice of delicious cake in their onsite café.

Residents remarked on how wonderful and beautiful the decorations and lights were.

Residents enjoy festive performance

Staff, residents and families had a fantastic afternoon as we sat back to enjoy a live performance with Sadie from Strictly Entertainment.

Residents enjoyed a glass of fizz whilst singing and dancing along to some of their favourite Christmas classics.

It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon as we kicked started our festive celebrations.

Christmas wreath making

Residents and staff had a fabulous time making wreaths for the home, reminiscing about their own gardens and Christmas's past.

A huge thank you to our Florist Virginia King for leading the session.

Our beautiful wreaths will take pride of place in the entry way at Highfield.

A Christmas Carol

Across our homes we’ve had the most wonderful time celebrating the festive season with a special screening of 2020’s OLD VIC: IN CAMERA – A Christmas Carol.

This beautifully staged production brought the magic of Dickens’ classic tale right into our homes.
A huge thank you to The Old Vic theatre for sharing this incredible performance with us. It was a truly wonderful experience.

Home present cheque to local charity

Highfield recently presented Reflection Yorkshire CIC with a cheque for £1000 towards the cost of sports activities and equipment. Reflections is a male only social enterprise providing 24/7 supported accommodation in a residential setting for those in recovery and those wanting recovery.

The grant had been awarded by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.
