Activities at Highfield Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kim Quean

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Kim and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Highfield Care Home.

I have 15 years' experience in care, 2 in senior care positions and 9 in activities. You will most likely find me dancing in a lounge or singing in the corridors, I also love a good dress up day!

I joined Barchester Healthcare in June 2024 and I am very excited to be part of the team here at Highfield.

It is a privilege to be part of an organisation which aligns so well with my own personal vision for residents wellbeing and quality of life.

I graduated University of Derby BSC, in integrative health and social care in January 2021 and completed NAPPA Level 2 Activity Provision in Adult Social Care the same year.

I look forward to working closely with you all, to ensure residents are happy, healthy and thriving.

Life at Highfield Care Home

Armchair Yoga with Bella

We know the importance of keeping our minds, body and soul active here at Highfield and group exercise sessions are part of our varied life enrichment programme.

We look forward to our monthly 'Armchair Yoga' with Bella and this popular session is a great way to achieve this whilst having a little fun!

Armchair yoga has many benefits, including improved flexibility and strength.

Eyes down for a game of bingo

Residents enjoyed a group activity this morning as everyone came together for a game of bingo with their eyes firmly on the prize!

Of course, there was a little friendly competitiveness involved but everyone had a great time, sharing fond memories of time spent in the bingo halls before settling back for a refreshing cup of tea and a chat.

Highfield's Summer Fete

We had our first Summer Fete with our residents, families, friends and community members singing along and toe tapping to Adele the Country and Western Singer.

With a BBQ serving hot dogs and cheese burgers, outside games for all ages and a tombola to win fantastic prizes.

The dance floor was thriving!

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Residents enjoy pet therapy visit

Here at Highfield Care Home we know how important a pet is to our residents, and leaving them with loved ones can be really tough.

This week we had the pleasure of therapy dog, Michael and his owner Lucy visit our residents for a well deserved cuddle.

Michael was loved by all the residents and brought smiles to every ones faces.

Friends from the community join us for lunch

It is important to us to keep our residents connected with their local community and to welcome our friends from the community to join us, we had the absolute privilege of a visit from the ladies and gentleman of Popplewell Springs to visit recently and enjoy a light lunch and take a tour of our home.

They all thoroughly enjoyed their meals and their fresh cakes and we look forward to welcoming them back soon.

A little friendly competition

Here at Highfield our residents are fiercely competitive. This week we played Jenga with a some of our residents and it was a very interactive group activity.

There may have been a few intentional nudges of the table in hopes the tower fell, but otherwise they were very helpful with each other, deciding which block should be taken next.
