Activities at Highfield Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Neil Barnard
Hi, my name is Neil, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Highfield! I joined the team and role in March 2025.
I love being around people and making a difference to those individuals. Just to see the smiles on their faces brings so much pleasure. I have been a vocalist since 2021, and singing brings me so much joy. You may hear me before you see me.
Don’t be shy—come say hello! I hope you can join us for the fun activities we have planned!
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Highfield Care Home

Children in Need
Staff and residents at Highfield had an amazing time celebrating BBC Children in Need with a special visit from Barkston Ash Nursery. We got together to decorate cookies, homemade by our fabulous Chef, and do a spot of Pudsey colouring.
Intergenerational activities are vital in enhancing quality of life for individuals living in care homes, not only providing opportunities to socialise but also bringing much joy to those involved.
Here at Highfield we love when the children come to visit and look forward to them joining us again in the future.

Remembrance Sunday
Remembrance Sunday is a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts. Highfield residents had a fabulous weekend of remembrance activities ranging from poetry to 1940’s vocalist Miss Marina Mae.
The most popular however, was a special in home church service, lead by Reverend Ann Fox, to honour veterans and armed forces members who were lost in the line of duty. Resident Alasdair M said “it’s been an amazing weekend, enjoyed by all. Thank you so much”.
At the going down of the sun, we will remember them.

Walk through a landscape
Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Emily and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to Reubens' Rainbow Landscape.
Residents truly enjoyed the sensory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.
Everyone who joined had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to put their creative skills to the test by painting some landscapes of our their in the coming days!

Remember Remember the 5th of November!
Remember Remember the 5th of November! Gun Powder Treason and Plot!
Our residents enjoyed a hearty dinner of pork pie, mushy peas and mint sauce followed by a spectacular firework display kindly organised by our neighbours in Scarthingwell Park. Our ladies enjoyed lighting a sparkler or two and reminiscing on firework displays and stories of older times.

Keeping the mind active
We support active minds as part of our varied life enrichment programme and our residents love it too!
We have so much fun with our interactive magic table which provides a variety of apps for residents to explore, from interactive games to virtual events and many more. There’s something for everyone to enjoy!

A breath of fresh air
Our home is set in beautiful and tranquil open parkland, overlooking a lake and in close proximity to the historic Roman Catholic Church of Scarthingwell Park.
Our residents enjoy their many walks around the garden and exploring our neighbouring church.
