Activities at Highfield Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kim Quean

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Kim and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Highfield Care Home.

I have 15 years' experience in care, 2 in senior care positions and 9 in activities. You will most likely find me dancing in a lounge or singing in the corridors, I also love a good dress up day!

I joined Barchester Healthcare in June 2024 and I am very excited to be part of the team here at Highfield.

It is a privilege to be part of an organisation which aligns so well with my own personal vision for residents wellbeing and quality of life.

I graduated University of Derby BSC, in integrative health and social care in January 2021 and completed NAPPA Level 2 Activity Provision in Adult Social Care the same year.

I look forward to working closely with you all, to ensure residents are happy, healthy and thriving.

Life at Highfield Care Home

Homes join 100th virtual event

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Foundation Cook Off

Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.  Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

World Chocolate Day

Staff and residents at Highfield Care Home, had a fantastic time celebrating World Chocolate Day.

Everyone enjoyed a chocolate tasting session, with a variety of old classics and some new flavours were all tested and rated. Everyone had fun discussing their favourites and their favourites throughout the years; it has been amazing how many different chocolate bars and flavours there has been.

One of our residents said "In my younger days chocolate wasn't readily available like it is now, I have tried so many delicious flavours today, I think this has to be one of my favourite celebrations"

Painting at Highfield.

At Highfield Care Home we had some of our residents taking part in some painting.

Our Activities Co-ordinator Kim said "with the weather being so unpredictable, I have found alternative activities all residents can do while remaining dry and warm"

Families and friends are encouraged to come along to any activities held by Highfield Care Home, check out the Activity Planner in the lobby.

Exploring the Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Competition Games Day

At Highfield Care Home residents enjoyed some healthy competition amongst themselves and the staff. We had games such as dominoes and Connect Four, which was a great hit, especially as a players advantage is another players disadvantage. With others watching on, it is a difficult game to watch as they have their own ideas how to play and most importantly how to win.

The residents are looking forward to a more regular games day at Highfield Care Home.
