Activities at Hollyfields Care Home

Our Activities programme is formulated using resident requests and feedback from resident meetings. Residents are involved in planning the programme with things they they would like to do throughout the year. There is a mixture of activities that take place including both group and 1-1 engagement. Residents at Hollyfields particularly enjoy movement to music activities enabling them to increase their level of physical abilities and have fun at the same time, whilst others enjoy musical singalongs and food based activities throughout the week.

We have a mini bus that enables us to reconnect our residents with their community in ways that suite themselves as individuals. This can be achieved by visiting local farms, Georgian towns, local attractions and even the local public house for lunch with friends. Hollyfields have a great relationship with their local community and have visits from local organisations such as The Wyre Community Land Trust and are currently undertaking a 12 week funded project from Arts Etc. Residents at Hollyfields enjoy Pet Therapy visits from their pet rabbit 'Thumper' and like to help clean and feed him daily. Relatives can be encouraged to join us for activities and again are very supportive with delivering theme days and fundraising events within the home.

Intergenerational Fun for All

At Hollyfields care home we know that intergenerational activity is hugely beneficial to all involved as it encourages communication and social skills. Intergenerational contact also helps to develop language and reading confidence through shared activities, as well as increasing confidence and self-esteem. Lastly it helps children to develop empathy, care and kindness, helping them to understand and talk more positively about ageing and older people.

This morning, we had the pleasure of being joined by the Jiggy Wrigglers Kidderminster, Ludlow and Bridgnorth We had an exceptionally enjoyable session, and it was heart-warming to witness the residents engaging with the children. Mary and Pat, both former teachers, expressed their delight in having the children visit. They mentioned that the children's presence brightened their morning and evoked fond memories for them.

Cuisines of the World

Today we enjoyed 'Cuisines of the world' courtesy of Head Chef Sarah.

We spent the day being inspired by learning facts about different countries and their cuisines from around the world. During one of our resident meetings, we asked our residents what food they missed from the various countries they have visited over the years.

The activities team compiled a list and India and Italy were the most popular choices. Head Chef, Sarah got to work planning a taster session menu of delightful dishes for us all to try.

We had the choice of Tomato Bruschetta and Lasagna Bolognese from Italy to try and resident; Tom's favourite Onion Bhaji that took him right back to his trip to India with his wife. Everyone agreed the dishes were full of flavour and it was a fabulous day of discussion and learning about each country and culture.

Coffee Cake Delights

The Pudding Club meeting this afternoon was a great success. We had a productive discussion about our current pudding offerings and received positive feedback from the families who attended. This month's featured pudding; Coffee Cake was particularly well-received, and we received several compliments on Sarah's baking skills.

63 Years of Wedded Bliss

Resident Pat was joined by her husband Alan for a romantic meal for two within the Hollyfields dinning room as we had the pleasure of hosting their Wedding Anniversary celebrating 63 years of wedded bliss!

They enjoyed a lovely lunch together reminiscing as they cut the cake to their wedding day.

Cruising Down the River Severn

Today we have been cruising down the river. Our residents enjoyed a lovely lunch out followed by a peaceful trip down the River Severn.

Regular outings are just one aspect of our life enrichment program and all the trips we take are at the request of the residents. Our monthly activities calendar boasts a range of outings and entertainment.

Kaylee took a day out of her annual leave and along with her daughter they supported us on our trip. Thank you both. We followed in the cruise theme with a virtual cruise at the home with props and themed cakes!
