Activities at Kings Park Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Cawsey

Activities Lead

Hello,  I am Angela the Activities Lead.

I am delighted to be part of the team at Kings Park after a transferring from a sister home in Salisbury, following my relocation to this area.

With experience in this role, my passion is bringing joy to our residents, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. I love getting to know each resident and incorporating their interests into engaging, meaningful activities and events that nurture the mind, body and spirit to enhance their well-being and life enrichment at our home. Making people smile is what I do best!

During lockdown, I ran daily Zoom sessions for well-being, including bingo and quizzes. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John's Ambulance which was very rewarding. I love being a Grandma, music, crafts, the outdoors and animals - I have just started a new hobby of wild swimming with friends.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Kings Park Care Home

What a Difference a Dog Makes!

One of the highlights of the residents' week has to be when the gorgeous Roady come for a visit...

Roady has been our ever faithful PAT (Pets as Therapy) dog here at Kings Park for quite some time now and his regular visits to our home make all the difference to everyone here.

Our lovely Golden Labrador, is always a very welcome sight, stopping off in resident's room who love a visit and often receiving a sneaky treat or two from th residents as a thank you.

If you are a regular visitor to our home and having a gentle natured canine friend, then you would be most welcome to bring them along too.

Pictured is resident, Clare with her beaming smile, alongside Roady and his owner, Terry.

Lavender's Blue...

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,

Lavender's green

When you are King, dilly dilly,

I shall be Queen.

Author Unknown.

Did you know that this little ditty dates as far back as the 1600's?

The residents here at Kings Park, fresh from the knowledge of lavender grown at the Eden Project, or so they learned at our recent virtual event, got stick into a little lavender bag making...

Having picked and dried home-grown lavender from the Kings Park gardens, a mini production line of sorts, was set up for everyone to get involved in making these wonderful smelling bags full of fragrant scent.

Everyone nearby commented on the floral aroma filling the ground floor.

Well done everyone for a wonderful job.

The Eden Project Virtual Event

Residents loved learning all about the Eden Project recently, in a special virtual event courtesy of Barchester Healthcare...

The interactive adventure invited those taking part to enjoy a sensory plant workshop and virtual tour of the magical Rainforest and Mediterranean Biomes at the world-famous gardens in Cornwall.

Expert, Catherine Cutler who manages The Eden Project's incredible biomes, dropped in to give a virtual tour of the diverse plants that grow in the world’s biggest captive rainforest and Eden’s drier landscapes.

What a wonderful time everyone had!

Thank you Barchester and thank you The Eden Project - A Big hit with our residents!

So Long to our Reading Buddies...

Residents received what is their final visit of the school year from the wonderful students over at Ferndown First School this week...

Many of the group, who have all become very familiar faces in our home, will next year be moving up to Ferndown Middle School in September, so this was their last session with our residents.

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the very well behaved students from the First School - You have been a real pleasure and a highlight for many of the residents here, who love to chat with you all and they have very much enjoyed your company.

We very much look forwards to meeting some new children in September!

A Solo Serenade...

Residents recently welcomed the ever entertaining Tony Edwards to their home for a wonderful afternoon of old-time tunes...

A gentle serenade was just the ticket, as residents enjoyed his rendition of 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco', much to everyone's pleasure.

Thank you Tony for another wonderful session, which they all seemed to benefit from.

Historic Ferndown

Residents recently thoroughly enjoyed themselves during a special event we laid on for them...

Roping in a little help from our friends from the local U3A History Group in the form of the lovely Val & Kay as our guest speakers, we invited along other guests, including, Tony Cordery - The new Mayor of Ferndown also, laying on a ploughman's-style supper with wine, followed by a wonderful talk about the history of the local area.

We discovered there was an old WWII bunker and that Ferndown even had it's own zoo, with lions, silver foxes and monkeys!

Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time and one of our residents, Richard, even gave a small speech of thanks for all the efforts made by the team here for such a lovely evening for everyone.

Let's do it again soon!
