Activities at Kings Park Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Claudia Canosa

Activities Lead

Claudia moved to the UK from her native South Africa with her family some 6 years ago, although her family are of Italian decent.

With a caring nature, Claudia worked for a domiciliary care company helping in people in the community before eventually working in a care home environment, working up to the role of Senior Carer.

Realising how much she enjoyed making the residents smile, Claudia has now stepped into the role of Activities Lead here at Kings Park and very much loves the interaction with our residents, who have all taken a real shine to her.

Claudia can regularly be seen with our residents in a very creative capacity, enjoying flower arranging or leading everyone in a game of good old fashioned Bingo!

When at home, Claudia is a mother to two boys and a girl and also a pet mum to the the gorgeous, Molly - a Jack Russell cross.

She loves nothing more than curling up on the sofa in front of a good rom/com, with:  The Holiday, The Lakehouse and The Notebook as some of her favourites to date.

We are so happy to have her as part of the Kings Park team.

May the Force be With You!

The volunteers that we have here at Kings Park from Ferndown Upper School are so very dear to us all here in the home and we are so grateful to have them come and spend time with all our wonderful residents. So when we heard that one of them was having a birthday recently, our residents wanted to acknowledge this...

Kayla, the birthday girl in question, celebrated with our residents when they surprised her with some flowers and a card in honour of the occasion.

Born on May the 4th, which modern history now dictates to be known as: Star Wars day ('May the fourth be with you!'), Kayla was happy to receive some lovely wishes from her friends here in the home.

Kayla, you brighten the lives of all of our residents with your smile and caring personality.

We feel it only right to quote the original Stars Wars film and say of you, Kayla: -

'The force is strong in this one!'

Coronation & Jubilations!

What an incredible weekend it has been here at Kings Park...

Our residents were glued to the TV sets throughout the home as they watched in awe as our new King was crowned.

With special buffet lunch organised by our Chef so that anyone who wanted, could continue to watch the crowing and parades that followed, it was greatly appreciate by everyone.

Sunday, however, it was a day full of celebrations!
The morning started off with the wonderful Mike Sidaway, who had us standing for the national anthem, singing along to 'Land of Hope and Glory' and 'Rule Britannia', before we dance along to some favourite rock n' roll numbers, as well as everyone belting out the Neil Diamond classic:  'Sweet Caroline!'.

Later on we ended with a little bit more of a sedate affair, enjoying afternoon tea on the patio with music, scones and cakes, before we all raise a glass of bubbles to our new King!

During the evening many residents gathered to watch the Coronation concert, broadcast live from Windsor castle, to finish the celebrations off in style.

Whatever you got up to, we truly hope that you have had a wonderful weekend of celebrations!

Happy Residents, Happy Birds!

Following on from our recent post about making some peanut butter and popcorn balls for the fine, feathered bird residents here in the Kings Park Garden, our human residents were eager to get out in the sunshine and give the birds their delicious treats...

Off they all went with the handmade balls and hung them from various branches and posts out in the garden, ready to see if there was any takers!

Well done everyone - Let's see what the birds think!

Getting Coronation Ready...

In readiness for the recent big, royal event, some of our residents really enjoyed learning a little coronation history recently...

We had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation.

Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

The event was highly enjoyable for everyone, and the residents were thrilled to be that extra bit knowledgeable in readiness for the Coronation.
