Activities at Kings Park Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Cawsey

Activities Lead

Hello,  I am Angela the Activities Lead.

I am delighted to be part of the team at Kings Park after a transferring from a sister home in Salisbury, following my relocation to this area.

With experience in this role, my passion is bringing joy to our residents, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. I love getting to know each resident and incorporating their interests into engaging, meaningful activities and events that nurture the mind, body and spirit to enhance their well-being and life enrichment at our home. Making people smile is what I do best!

During lockdown, I ran daily Zoom sessions for well-being, including bingo and quizzes. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John's Ambulance which was very rewarding. I love being a Grandma, music, crafts, the outdoors and animals - I have just started a new hobby of wild swimming with friends.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Time for an Elfie!

Recently, here at Kings Park you may have been greeted upon entering our home with some very festive characters...

The staff had a rest and their cheeky doppelganger elves stepped in to run the home!

Raiding awareness for the Alzheimer's Society, everyone was a little extra festive for the day, much to the surprise and delight for all of our residents.

Here's a few photos for you to enjoy!

Festive Baking

Up on Memory Lane recently, residents were very eager to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in for a spot of festive baking...

Christmas cupcakes was what was on the agenda for the day and they soon busied themselves whisking, mixing and decorating, before finally consuming the delicious treats.

They all had a wonderful time, but the best bit was definitely trying their cakes, along with an obligatory cup of tea!

Well done everyone, they look wonderful!

Christmas Tree Festival

We recently took pride of place at St. Martin's Church in West Moors, as they hosted their annual Christmas Tree Festival...

Local businesses, charities and community groups were all encouraged to dress a tree to go on show in the Church for the whole community to come along and view.

This year our theme was 'Christmas Memories', so we asked residents what their favourite moments from their Christmas' past were and we used these to decorate the tree.

These included: -

Dad saying: 'That's just what I always wanted!' when opening any present.

Crispy roast potatoes.

Mum making a huge Christmas cracker filled with all our presents.

Spending time with family

Playing silly games

Watching everyone open their presents

What a wonderful chance for reminiscing with everyone - Thank you all for sharing these important moments with us.

What's your favourite Christmas memory?

Avonwood School Nativity

Some our our lovely Memory Lane residents recently ventured out to see a very special seasonal school Christmas play...

Having been invited by the wonderful students and staff from Avonwood Primary School, Brenda, Pat & Eileen, accompanied by Claudia, our Activities Lead, headed towards Bournemouth on the Kings Park minibus for a very special showing of the year 2 children's nativity play, much to everyone's delight!

This was the children's first proper run through with an audience and they all did marvellously!

There was lots of wonderful singing, acting and LOTS of sparkly outfits, which the residents loved.

After a lovely chat to all the performers and a quick photo or two, the residents were then ushered into a lovely warm staff room for a cuppa and some delicious mince pies and an audience with Mary, Joseph and the donkey.

It was a magnificent afternoon, thoroughly enjoyed by all!

THANK YOU AVONWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL for a wonderful show and for your fabulous hospitality - The residents LOVED it!

Festive Scrabble

We recently welcomed back Steve, with his GIANT Scrabble board, much to the delight of our residents...

Splitting into two teams, there were some very tense moments as words were played on the board.

Thank you Steve, for another great session and we hope to welcome you back to Kings Park very soon!

Dining Room Dinner Dance

It's all fun & games here at Kings Park...

Caught in the act, one of our lovely residents, Eric, just couldn't sit still after hearing a favourite tune recently, as he and Senior Carer, Sam, took to their make shift dance floor just before supper one evening, much to everyone's amusement!

It's moments like these that make us all smile and bring so much joy to our home.

Well done Eric & Sam for channelling your inner John Travolta!

Just look at that smile !
