Activities at Kings Park Care Home

Prawn cocktail is a favourite amongst our residents and these flew out of the kitchen!

It didn’t stop there though, the homemade Tiramisu was so popular, there was none left by the end of lunch service!

When our residents have finished reading their papers, we save and then deliver them to the fabulous RSPCA team at Ashley Heath.   Mary and Dobby were very pleased to say ‘hello’ to our Home Services Advisor, Lucy, this afternoon! We are planning to have a Community Dog Show at Kings Park when the weather is warmer and the ladies from the RSPCA were telling Lucy all about a Fun Day they are planning in the summer.   Keep an eye out on their website for details www.rspca.org.uk/local/ashley-heath-animal-centre and ours for the upcoming Dog Show!

There were snowdrops aplenty at Kingston Lacy this morning that have all kinds of names such as ‘Ding Dong’ and ‘Heffalump’!

Lime Avenue looked like a carpet of white delicateness and The Fernery felt like a Fairy Garden as we twined our way through the raised beds full of snowdrops nestled around daffodils and crocuses, all waiting to burst open.

Henrietta Bankes, a passionate horticulturist, first had her gardener plant snowdrops at Kingston Lacy in the early 1900s and he certainly did an excellent job!

We will be returning to see the bluebells when they have opened up in the Spring! Can almost smell them already!

Steve brought his enormous board with him this afternoon to get our minds thinking as two teams played against each other for an intensive game.   One team played ‘Cheque’ in the top right hand corner for a whopping 63 points!

We were enthralled by a very interesting talk from Keith Barnwell, who served in the Navy for 37 years starting as a Junior Assistant Stores Account Class 2 and completing his service as Commander of his own ship.   We also learnt how many current day sayings stemmed from the Navy - for example, the saying “Three square meals a day” comes from the square trencher plates used in the Navy as far back as the 1500’s.   Keith is one of Barchester Healthcare’s Leadership Development Facilitator’s and prepared this presentation especially for us here at Kings Park. Thank you very much Keith! We all greatly enjoyed it

Djokovic might have caused a stir at the Australian Open this week but it didn’t stop our residents getting their rackets out!

With the weather outside being very chilly, we played a few games of tennis in the lounge - luckily no ornaments were broken so our Housekeeping Team were happy!
