Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Gale Louw

Activity Coordinator

Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.

Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home

Saying Farewell

Saying Farewell

Residents, Staff and family members were on hand to say a very fond farewell to Milford's General Manager, Cathy Fountain, who is leaving us after 25 years! Needless to say, quite a lot of tears were shed by everyone, but we all managed to put on a brave face and smile as well, as we remembered all the good things that we have done together over the years! We have asked Cathy to not be a stranger and we all wish her well for the future.

Musical Morning

Musical Morning

Residents at Milford House were delighted to have Jasmine come in and play the piano for us. Jasmine, who works at Milford in a domestic capacity, is studying music at university and plays the piano and trumpet to a high standard - and is hoping to become a music teacher. We had a lovely morning listening to her play; she has promised to come back and play for us again - we can't wait!

Ukelele Afternoon

Ukelele Afternoon

Residents were treated to an afternoon of music and song by 20 members of the Salisbury Ukelele Band, who came along and entertained everyone. It was a very lively and enjoyable afternoon and the sound of music and song could be heard all around the home. The band are already booked in to come and perform before Christmas, and there might be even more of them next time!

The Solent Dolphin

The Solent Dolphin

Residents enjoyed an outing on the Solent Dolphin, sailing out from Hythe Marina into Southampton Water. Residents particularly liked looking at all the cruise liners that were docked in port, as well as the sights in the mouth of the Itchen river.

Summer Tea

Summer Tea

We had a lovely afternoon with Amanda, who came to entertain us with a range of songs that had everyone tapping their feet, clapping their hands and singing along. Amanda, who was wearing a lovely floral vintage tea dress, really brightened up our afternoon.

Flower Power

Flower Power

Just spotted in the garden today: our first Milford House sunflower coming into bloom. Residents planted seeds back on the 12th May and here we are, exactly 10 weeks later with our first bloom appearing! There are lots more to come, both large and small and in a variety of colours, so we will be enjoying them over the next few weeks.
