Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Dobbie Parties with the Queen
Visitors of all shapes and sizes attended our Street Party celebrations for the Queen's 90th birthday, including Dobbie the PAT Dog - and his human, Emma! Dobbie is a firm favourite here at Milford; he has a wonderful range of outfits for every occasion, so he is always suitably dressed for whatever we have going on! Dobbie and Emma, who come into the home most weeks, are part of our wonderful band of volunteers who contribute so much to the lives of all who live at Milford.
Street Party
Residents at Milford celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday (and National Care Home Open Day) with a 'Street Party'. Unfortunately, due to the damp weather, our 'street' had to be inside, but this did nothing to dampen the spirits as we sampled traditional street party food, had cream tea and sang patriotic songs, accompanied by Sophie. We finished up with a rousing rendition of God Save the Queen and Jerusalem.
A Week of Work Experience
Here at Milford, we were delighted to welcome Sarah and Georgia from South Wiltshire Grammar School for a week of work experience. The girls have assisted with activity sessions and have provided invaluable back room support to the Activities Team, as well as joining in with whatever the residents were doing. Residents thoroughly enjoyed their interest and company.
Ancient World Travelogue
Residents at Milford House enjoyed an afternoon visiting Ephesus and Rhodes via a slide show and talk. We realised that there is almost nothing that we do that the Romans hadn't done first in terms of city planning and living. We were transported to foreign lands with better weather, which was all rounded off by a cup of tea.
Euro Debate
We were delighted to welcome our local MP, John Glenn, to Milford House to explain some of the issues surrounding the EU Referendum and to discuss his personal opinion. In an open session, Mr. Glenn then answered questions from the residents. It was a thoroughly interesting afternoon and we were all grateful to Mr. Glenn for finding the time to talk through the issues with us.
Shopping & Coffee
It was a ladies shopping morning today at Milford and a group went out to the local superstore armed with their shopping lists. With the main work of the day done, we then retired to the cafe for a well-earned cup of coffee.
