Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Tea Outing
Residents enjoyed an afternoon at one of our local garden centres with milkshakes and cream teas. This was a hastily rearranged outing as our original plan of going out on Southampton Water on the Solent Dolphin had to be cancelled at the last moment as the lock gates had broken and they wouldn't let any boats out! But, in true British fashion, we carried on and had a lovely afternoon a little nearer to home.
4th July Celebrations
Here at Milford House, we celebrated the 4th July with a special lunch; residents had a choice of burgers or hot dogs with banoffee pie for desert. This was followed by an afternoon of songs from Beth, featuring American classics from Elvis and the musical theatre.
Outing to Wilton House
Residents enjoyed an afternoon out at Wilton House. We had a tour conducted by Russ who told us everything about the house and its contents. He took us on a tour of some of the gardens which was followed by a cream tea before we headed home. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
Robin Returns
All at Milford House were delighted to welcome back Robin and his piano accordion. Robin did a performance of two halves - classical waltzes, polkas and familiar tunes and, after tea, popular songs that we could all sing along to. It won't be long before Robin is back with us again and we can't wait.
Summer Art
Residents created some lovely summer art using flower petals from the garden. The petals were arranged between transparent sheets within a coloured frame and the results were put through the laminator to create a diverse and colourful array of pictures which we are all enjoying.
The Sunflower Diaries: Part 2
Our sunflowers have been planted out and are now making good progress despite the less than sunny weather - and are approaching 3 feet tall. We have designated the week of 5th September ‘Sunflower Week’, when we will be having a competition to guess the height of our plants, explore facts and figures about sunflowers and look at the ‘Sunflower in Art’. We look forward to watching their progress in the meantime.
