Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Gale Louw

Activity Coordinator

Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.

Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

WaterAid Winner

WaterAid Winner

We held our first event for our WaterAid fundraising, which was a 'find the well' competition, and the lucky winner was Carlito, a member of our care team. Carlito was delighted with his prize and we were all very happy as we managed to raise the first £30 towards our target. Don't forget that anyone can make a donation directly through our 'just giving' page, which can be found by clicking here

Great British Celebrations

Great British Celebrations

Residents at Milford House celebrated the Queen's birthday and St George's Day with a special tea party and music from Amanda. It was a thoroughly red, white and blue affair and there was lots of flag waving as well. We had some guests who joined us from our sister home in Andover, who declared our cakes delicious and asked if they could take our chef home with them! Needless to say, we said no.

Salisbury College Comes to Milford House

Salisbury College Comes to Milford House

We had a great day with the girls from Salisbury College, who assisted with a games session, where Ludo, Snakes & Ladders and Dominoes were the order of the day.

In the afternoon, they assisted us with more active games, including skittles, balloon games, quoits and throwing with bean bags.

It was a fun day; we all enjoyed having the girls with us and look forward to seeing them again next month.

Musicians at Milford House

Musicians at Milford House

We have been so lucky at Milford in the last few weeks to have had a number of budding musicians come in to play for us and today was no exception.  We were entranced by the playing of Imogen and Barnaby, who know one of our Residents, and who volunteered to come and play for us.  They both performed a number of pieces on both the electric piano and violin and if they come again Barnaby has promised to play his French Horn for us as well!  Thank you both for a lovely afternoon.

Employee of the Month - March

Employee of the Month - March

Congratulations to Sister Emma! Sister Emma was the winner of Barchester's March Employee of the Month for Milford House and we all just wanted to say 'Well done Emma!'  Emma has a voucher to spend on something nice for herself. Sister Emma commented that 'while I am delighted to receive my voucher and nomination as with everything at Milford House it is really a team effort.'

Madiera Travelogue

Madiera Travelogue

Residents enjoyed hearing all about the Island of Madiera with a slide show that covered the sights and pleasures of this island. The talk covered the history, culture, flora, fauna and sights and when the slide show was over we had a lovely cup of tea accompanied by a slice of Madiera cake - what else!
