Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

Every dog has it's day!

Ahead of National Dog Day on the 26th August, today we had a fun-filled day celebrating our furry friends in recognition of the up and coming celebration event. Four paws are the best residents have officially certified!

Our residents had a fantastic time learning more about the different breeds and their characteristics, discussing and reminiscing about their own pets and finding out fun facts about dogs and puppies.

In the afternoon, we hosted our own dog show and enjoyed petting our therapy dog, the famous Bruno. Lovely Bruno is a brown Labrador is loved by all residents and staff here at the home with his soft ears, kind nature and many fun tricks.

Roll up Roll up, Ice Cream!

Here at Ouse View in York we had a lovely visit from the ice cream man again today with sweltering 39 degree heat we needed a step outside into the sunshine.

Residents were able to pick and choose which ice cream and toppings they wanted and all staff where able to have their own 99 ice creams too. Most of the day we remained inside in the air conditioned home to keep cool with plenty of drinks.

Julys Dementia Coffee Morning

Yesterday morning here at Ouse View Care Home in Fulford, we welcomed families, friends and the local community into our home for a Community Coffee Morning.

Residents also enjoyed their coffee and the fantastic cakes courtesy of our Head Chef Eve Goodger.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to our next coffee morning in August, keep your eyes peeled for the next date.

Pamper Time

Helping our residents to relax and feel their best is very important to us here at Ouse View.

Our residents love it when we give them one to one pamper time, they enjoy having their nails done, their hands massaged and their hair done to look nice. Giving them this sense of a personal touch helps all of our residents to feel at home.

Tour De Barchester 2022

Staff from Barchester Healthcare’s care homes up and down the country have taken on a grueling 211 mile cycling challenge. Ouse View where on a static bicycle to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which supports older people and other adults living with a disability or mental health problems by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities, our target was 100miles!

Over the course of July 7th from 12 noon, the team at the home cycled 160.9 km, stopping only for a swap over of cyclists. Seven of Ouse View Staff took part and did their bit towards the big 100mile target.

Relatives of the home and friends met with well-wishes, and those who took part each sat with the Residents to have a well-earned break and refuel before continuing on their way.

Exercise U Sit U Exercise Class

Residents at Ouse View are thrilled when activities co-ordinators run our exercise classes in the home, classes are held usually on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10.30am. Through this week we had a wonderful special guest in the afternoon. Independence, mobility and strength is key for our residents, Mark Hampshire from U Sit U Exercise, certainly believes this in his expert opinion and ran an exciting series of movements to music.

Resistance bands of rainbow colours were utilised for residents’ extension of arms and pushing of their legs to build and maintain their strength. Mark commented: “Ladies and Gentlemen of the class, you’ve been outstanding today, very well done! In the next session, we move to the quicker paced songs to really get our hearts pumping!”
