Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

All that Jazz....and cocktails!

Recently we were delighted to welcome the wonderful Sarah back to perform for us at our cocktail & jazz afternoon. The residents had a wonderful time joining in with the classic Jazz tunes and sipping their freshly mixed cocktailsOn the menu were a variety of Autumnal treats to enjoy, which included a Gin & Prosecco Fizz, Apple Cider Mimosas and a delicious Cider Punch. We’d like to say a big thank you to Sarah for coming to sing for us, we look forward to seeing her again in December.

Baking Club - Cream tea

We’d like to say a big thank you to our resident baker David for rustling up a delicious batch of homemade fruit scones for our cream tea  last week! They smelt & tasted divine.... the only conundrum was clotted cream or jam first?

Arty Crafty Autumn

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve been getting creative with activities inspired by the changing seasons. We’ve painted autumn leaves, made autumnal wreaths & also created sculptures out of clay. One of our residents, Tessa loved the opportunity to pick up the paint palette again and paint a beautiful still life of Autumnal leaves

Wilma the wonderful therapy dog

We’re thrilled to be able to introduce the two newest members of our Shawford Springs family, our gorgeous therapy dog Wilma and her lovely owner Olivia! They’ll be popping in regularly to ensure that our residents get plenty of doggy cuddles.

Autumn outings and Pumpkins galore

This week we visited the lovely Cobbs farm shop & cafe in Headbourne Worthy, Winchester for coffee and cake. The farm shop has been a feature in the local community for over three decades, and started life as a simple watercress shed!

A Hole lot of Fun....

Recently we went on a slightly unusual outing… to play ‘Prison Putt’ Crazy Golf! The idea to go for a game of mini-golf came from our lovely resident Jackie, who thought it would be a fun activity for everyone to try. Well, she wasn’t wrong, we all had a brilliant time! The accolade of ‘star putter’ went to David, who managed not one, but two holes in one - so well done David and a big thank you to Jackie for the fab activity suggestion!
