Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Ready, Steady, Easter Bake....

This afternoon we gathered in our cafe for our annual Easter bake off contest!

A selection of delicious bakes were entered into the contest, which gave the judges a difficult decision when it came to choosing a winner…

However we are delighted to announce that the top 3 bakers were: Réka who came in 3rd place with her chocolate & walnut cake. Jo & Mike who were 2nd with their Easter brownie and in 1st place was Bella with her beautifully decorated lemon cake! A big well done to everyone who took part, we thoroughly enjoyed sampling all the scrumptious entries.

Easter Baking for the grand Easter bake Off

This week  Elisa & David have been busy baking carrot cakes & cupcakes for our Easter Bake Off Contest tomorrow. We can’t wait to try them - hopefully they will score highly with the judges!

Sweet String Music

On Thursday we were treated to a wonderful hour of music courtesy of viola player Philip.

Philip is a member of the Welsh National Opera’s Orchestra & very kindly made time to visit us between concerts.

He performed a selection of well known pieces & covered a variety of genres including classical, jazz, sing along tunes & of course opera too.

We all had a wonderful afternoon & are looking forward to welcoming Philip back later in the year

Out and About - Brambridge Garden centre

The garden centre has also very kindly donated a gift voucher for our Easter raffle, so a big thank you to the staff for their generosity & for supporting our home.

Out and about - The Royal Logistics Museum

This week we took another trip to The Royal Logistic Corps Museum in Worthy Down.

This was a special trip for Tony, who has visited many of Winchester’s military museums, but had never had the opportunity to visit the Royal Logistic Corp’s museum before. He thoroughly enjoyed the trip & was especially impressed by the medal room, which has a vast array of medals on display.

After having a look around the exhibits we all enjoyed a round of drinks in the on site café. Thank you to all the staff at the museum for welcoming us
