Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Out and about .... The flowerpots Inn ...Cheers

Yesterday some of our gents enjoyed an afternoon at The Flower Pots Inn in Cheriton for a pint in their beer garden.

A big thank you to all the staff & the landlord of the pub for being so friendly & welcoming. We can’t wait to return for another visit soon.

Chocolatey Treat

Pippa from Chocolate Craft in Old Alresford recently paid us a visit to provide residents and local community members with a very informative, fun and tasty chocolate making and tasting session.

Chocolate Craft produce hand decorated chocolates using only the finest ingredients including Belgian Chocolate and fresh Hampshire cream. Fortnum & Mason is just one of their most prestigious customers!

We were very lucky to be able to taste a range of different chocolates including an unusual and relatively new "Ruby" chocolate....

Ahoy Sailors ....

Last week we had a fabulous time at our Nautical Themed Day!

We spent the afternoon listening to sea shanties whilst enjoying fish & chips and ice cream in the sunshine.

We’d like to say a big thank you to the Southampton Salty Sea Dogs for coming to perform for us - we all had a fantastic time singing along with you. Also a special thanks to our kitchen team for the delicious food!

A day at the Races....

When planning our weekly minibus outings, we always ask our residents where they would like to go and wherever possible endeavour to make their requests happen.

So, on Wednesday afternoon this week we took a special trip to Salisbury Racecourse for one of their Summer race days.

When we arrived, we found a spot right next to the finishing post, so we could watch the excitement of each race unfold and cheer on the runners & riders!

The request to go to the races was made by our lovely resident, Anne, who absolutely loves horse racing and thought it would be a fun day out which everyone could enjoy.

Well, the trip turned out to be a great success, so much so we are already busy planning our next race day outing to Newbury

Meaningful Moments - Richard's garden

Yesterday we took a trip to visit a very special garden, which belongs to our wonderful resident Richard.

Throughout his life, one of Richard’s big passions has been for gardening & also collecting rare trees and plants. He dedicated many hours when at home to creating a tranquil oasis full of rare plants & colourful flowers, a labour of love of which he is incredibly proud.

Richard talks about his garden often, so with the help of his family, we were able to arrange for him to visit it again. Richard’s son Russell met us there and as soon as we arrived, Richard’s face lit up with the biggest smile. We all felt incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to share the joy of Richard’s garden with him and we’d like to thank his family making it possible.

On the way home, we decided to stop in at the Potters Heron Pub for a round of drinks & Richard enjoyed a pint in the sunshine amongst friends
