Activities at Spen Court Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Blackburn

Head of Activities

My name is Angela and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Spen Court. I get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness.

We feel it is important to build community connections and maintain our resident’s social interaction outside the care home.

We ensure we deliver a person-centered program of events and activities and build strong relationships with our residents, their families and friends.

Happy 80th Birthday Bob!

Bob Ellis was proud to celebrate his 80th birthday in style.

He had his friend visit him where they enjoyed a Birthday Quiz and a little tipple as it was a special birthday.

Bob was  PE teacher at Batley Grammar School for many years. He enjoys Quizzes, exercise sessions, most sports and reading his newspaper.

Bob received plenty of cards and several birthday cakes, which he did offer to share with everybody.

National Housekeepers Week

We have a fantastic housekeeping team and we would be in such a mess without them. (Hope you like what I did there) The team were treated to a bag of delicious chocolates with a little note of thanks.

It’s always a good feeling to be appreciated within the work place, and this gesture is to thank the team for all the work they do within the home.

The team are Sue – Head housekeeper, Jody, Jessica both Domestic assistants and Saf & Megan are both Laundry assistants.

Diamond Wedding Celebrations

Ted from Spen Court care home, in Heckmondwike and wife Val have celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Ted and Val married in August 1963. They have 3 sons and 2 daughters, 1 grandson and 4 grandaughters. Despite Ted and Val enjoying many trips away, travelling as far as Antartica and Australia, Ted says his favourite place is “Wherever Val is”.

Both Ted and Val attended evening classes to learn German to help with having German exchange friends stay with them.

The couple have been regular attendees at St Mary’s Church, Mirfield. They were churchwarden’s assistants for over 20 years and used to make teas and coffees after the service for many years.

Ted and Val celebrated their special day by receiving a blessing from Hugh, their vicar and spent the weekend celebrating with family and friends at Healds Hall in Liversedge.
