Activities at Spen Court Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Blackburn
My name is Angela and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Spen Court. I get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness.
We feel it is important to build community connections and maintain our resident’s social interaction outside the care home.
We ensure we deliver a person-centered program of events and activities and build strong relationships with our residents, their families and friends.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Spen Court Care Home

Christmas cake baking
Residents all joined in with adding and stirring the ingredients to the Christmas cake, stirring the Christmas cake mixture is a tradition that involves making a wish for good luck. The residents not only prepared the cake, they also decorated it.
Many of the residents had previously baked or attended night classes to do cake decorating, the sessions were great for reminiscing, the touch, the smell, the feelings it brought back.
The resident weighed out the ingredients, added it together surely but slowly, mixing as they went and the cake shall be eaten before Christmas as it would be a shame to have it sitting there just looking pretty.

Eyes down for a game of bingo
Residents and visitors really enjoy playing bingo, it’s a regular on the homes varied life enrichment programme. Elaine, the resident ambassador likes to be the caller.
Playing bingo is great for hand-eye coordination, great for mental flexibility, it’s a fantastic way to socialize and provides the residents with a sense of well-being.
The residents also have the enjoyment of winning prizes of sweet treats, which is always a great addition to any activity.

Home present to local charity
Spen Court recently presented Westwood 2015 with a cheque for £480 to pay towards the cost of providing Christmas lunch for the members of the charity aiming to prevent social segregation.
Westwood is working to bring people together and to ensure everyone feels included and valued within the community. Their mission is to prevent social exclusion and to address the needs of individuals who are marginalized or at risk of becoming socially excluded by offering a range of activities and events designed to empower and support people.
