Activities at The Spires Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Angie Smith
Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.
We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

Life at The Spires Care Home
Easter celebrations
Residents at The Spires enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, from an Easter Bonnet parade, the Lichfield Cathderal service and Easter crafts with staff dressed up as bunnies. Residents also tucked in to a delicious Easter meal of homemade roast lamb dinner followed by Easter cake, Easter eggs and Baileys coffees prepared by the home’s chef Ian Gordon.
Brenda, resident at The Spires said: “It has been so lovely to spend time with our families this Easter, though like every Easter, I think I’ve eaten too much chocolate! It was so wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort. I really enjoyed the Eater Bonnet parade and the Easter eggs!”
Humpty Dumpty Day Nursery
Residents of The Spires have joined the children at Humpty Dumpty day nursery and Pre-school for an afternoon of Easter crafts. Residents joined in with the children to create a giant Easter Egg for their window display.
The group of residents and children also enjoyed an Easter story together before all sitting down to share some cake.
General Manager, Amy Doyle, said: “We were thrilled to be invited to spend time with the children, and the residents at our home had a lot of fun on the day. Intergenerational activities have such benefits for both the children and our residents and they have all enjoyed spending time together today”
Happy 103rd Birthday Doreen!
Celebrations have been in full swing at The Spires as one of its residents reaches her 103rd birthday in style.
Doreen was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she celebrated a very special birthday! A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef Polly Holmes.
Doreen has lived in Lichfield for most of her life having moved here from Solihull. Doreen worked in an insurance office in Birmingham where she met her late husband Bill, Doreen has 2 children Jenny and Peter. Doreen is a keen member of the Scrabble club at The Spires Care Home where she is enjoying a new chapter of her life.
Historic Royal Palaces
Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session. Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!
We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.
Book Club Corner
Across our services, our residents had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.
Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.
The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Community Coffee
Today at The Spires some of our residents have enjoyed a trip out to St Mary's Lichfield library. Then we had fun with a good old pub singalong, and a game of Bingo.
